Changing Majors UC Irvine

I got into UC Irvine for Biology major

I want to change it to Electrical Engineering or Accounting

I will be a freshman next year

how can I change my major and how difficult will it be?

I read somewhere that you can change your major during SPOP, maybe a current UCI student can confirm this…

They don’t have Accounting as a major. They have Business Economics, which you can most likely transfer into, and Business Administration which is really tight and you probably can’t transfer into. You can try your junior year, but they only accept about 10 transfers a year.

EDIT:

They have an accounting minor, which you can minor in as long as you’re not in their Business School (Business Econ. isn’t in their business school). So you can major in EE and minor in Accounting.

You can change your major, at your myadmissions portal, click on message center and there will be a link to change majors. I tried a week ago, yet they told me to submit again in April. Im assuming they are waiting for all the admissions to go out and see if they have room in your desired major.

You can change your major at SPOP but I don’t think you can change it to Engineering or Business Administration. Maybe I don’t remember clearly but there were two specific majors they told us we could not change to.

For Business Administration (you can specialize in accounting) it’ll probably be very difficult.
You can apply for the accounting minor after you meet pre-reqs (around your 2nd year) but try to maintain a 3.7+ GPA.

I don’t know about EE though.

Hello, this is my first post at CC.
I am a intl student accepted to film and media studies, would it be difficult for me to transfer to business economics before the semester start, and it is required that I do that at SPOP? (nowhere else?)
Thank you very much!!

It should be easy to switch to bizecon since it is not impacted.

Thank you very much. I was asking because I thought business econ was a harder major than film (to get into). Now I know! :)

I have not heard back from UCI yet, but how hard would it be to switch from Criminal Justice to Computer Science?

(I dunno if this helps, but I have experience with programming and computers… I just decided earlier this month that I would like to study Comp. Sci rather than CJ.)

I’m currently attending UCI and I want to change my major to Mathematics. I took two lower division math courses already, Math 2A and 2B. I received a “C” in Math 2A and an “A” in Math 2B. But the requirement says I need a minimum GPA of 3.00 for all
lower-division UCI math courses that count toward the major. So should I retake Math 2A before switching majors? Is it necessary because some people say I should and some say that I don’t need to. here is the link to the criteria [UCI Change of Major Criteria: School of Physical Sciences](http://www.changeofmajor.uci.edu/CoM_PhySci.html#math)

Most of the schools have prerequisites you need to fulfill before you can be accepted. Engineering, in particular, is reasonably intensive and structured, so I would imagine that the prerequisites would also be tough and numerous.

As for accounting, UCI only offers the minor. Students who want to be accountants generally major in Business Econ with the minor in accounting. For Business Econ, the prerequisites are Econ. 20A-B and Math 2A-B, whereas for the accounting minor the prerequisites are Man. 30A-B and Math 2A-B (with GPA requirements). You’re allowed to apply once per quarter, so if that’s what you want to do, get on it.

I’ve had friends get into the minor with a 3.5 GPA, but it’s generally pretty competitive. As for other majors, anything in ICS, Engineering, or business is going to be fairly competitive, while the other schools should let you in so long as you meet the requirements. Math is in the school of Physical Sciences, so I’m not sure about how competitive it would be; although it would definitely by surer thing than a switch to engineering.

I might add that the Business Econ BA+Accounting minor option will usually end in grad school if you want to get your CPA.

The requirement is a 3.0 for Man. 30A and 30B. You only need a 2.0 for all the prerequisites.
