Changing my name for college? haha Suggestions?

Seymour Butts
Mike Hawk

But seriously, you should change it to Steven.

I was thinking about changing my name before college starts…it’s way to ethnic and I feel like it’s ruing my life. The only good thing about it is that people never forget it :/

you might find websites like these helpful  [Boy Baby Names that start with s](Boy Baby Names)

honestly i doubt there’s notthing qrong qith your name…it’s unique and it shows where your roots are…

im not sure if i should change it because it might help me out for admissions…haha maybe i should write my essay on how much i hate my name.

Can you just shorten your name instead of picking a random new name? IDK, I always think it’s funny when foreign kids are named Xuang-chi or something and they say, call me “Andy”.

I love my Asian (not Chinese) name but use an English name in America, just for practicality.
It’s just a personal choice I guess. At first, I was reluctant to go by a different name but I’m just tired of people mispronouncing or ridiculing my name or spending 5 minutes at Starbucks counter spelling out my name.
How did I chose my English name? Well, it’s a name from fond childhood memories that has always stuck in my head.
Some of my friends ask their friends for advice of a new name.

Shawn.
But I advise you to keep you name. It’s a part of who you are.

Shaq, scott, skylar, skip (if you just want a pure nick name), steve, stew, stuart, samuel

There was a kid from Taiwan at my high school named Yung-Chen but he went by Carlos. We asked “Why do you go by Carlos?” and he said “I don’t know, I picked it off a list of names they gave me.”

How do you change your name (is it a lot of red tape and a lengthy process)? I want to change my last name.

Try Mordecai, it’s a great name.

schaden, GT differences aside, PM me and I can tell you how the process works in Georgia. Ought to be modifiable to other states, too.

hah, I’m not sure if its clear on this thread but I am raised in America and went to American schools all my life with my Indian name. People have eventually adjusted to it.

Thats what I really wanted to use the nickname for haha, I thought it would be so much easier with a normal name to introduce myself to people at parties and places like that. People are always like “I’m sorry, what was your name?” or “Wait can you spell that” or “So wait its like pronounced how” It just gets annoying and tiring after many years and what better place to start over and reinvent than college?

I suggest Snuggles McGruff.

How about an easier to pronounce/spell Indian name? It might fit you better and be more memorable than a common American Steve or Sam.

I plan on using a different name because my (American enough) name is spelled strangely AND hard to pronounce. It’s a problem. Honestly, I would say just to pick a name you like. It’s nice if it’s similar because it kind of shows respect for your parent’s wishes, but if you hate ‘Steve’ and ‘Sam’ and love ‘Nick,’ then pick Nick!

If it helps, you can also go through baby name sites–my favorite is babyhold.com!

Did you go through the process? Send me the information or I’m sure I could find it on the internet.

Samir

I guess for people at parties you can go by a nickname, but if I was you, I would go by my real name around the people I live with and friends and stuff like that. That’s just what I would do.
