Since FASFA has now opened I wanted to get this question in before filling out the forms for this year. Last year I had my mom as my parent, since my parents are divorced and I spent the most time with my mother. This year I have been working frequently and was with my dad more and will be getting more financial support from him. My mom makes more than my dad, but he is able to supply me with more financial support. Would the school do anything if I were to change my parent? I am a transfer student as I graduated high school with my A.A. degree but this is only my second time completing the form. Any advice would be great.
You put the parent you live with most. How much each can contribute doesn’t matter for the FAFSA. I don’t think it’s unusual for kids to change which parent they live with while in college.
If you completed your AA while in high school, you are probably still a freshman at most schools.
We’re you commuting from parents’ homes or living at school?
You put the Parent with whom you spent the majority of the time the previous year as of the date of FAFSA filing…and yes, this can change from year to year.
