I’m a high school junior wanting to work in DC in government and politics. GTown and GW are my preferred schools, but, being in-state, UNC is a strong contender due to cost and proximity to home. How do outcomes of and opportunities for Chapel Hill students shape up? Will UNC propel me into success in DC? How does it shape up to GTown? Any experience or comments are much appreciated! Thanks…
I don’t have any stats to back this up, but from my perspective (I’m a junior at UNC) there are TONS of UNC alums in DC. Out of my politically active friends, a good number have moved to DC to work at lobbying organizations and consulting agencies such as Deloitte, and even more have interned in DC for senators and representatives. It’s worth checking out this program if you’re interested:
UNC is fabulous in many ways, but Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service would likely be your best bet. I’m sure you have done your research on that one. Georgetown is tied to the hip with DC. Maybe undergrad at UNC for costs and grad school at Georgetown’s foreign service program. Hate to say it as a UNC parent, but all things being equal Georgetown is the place to be for a DC career (of course all things are not equal, cost being the biggest factor). Good luck.
