Hello I am currently a junior living in NC but I just moved from AZ, I was wondering about my chances to get into UNC Chapel Hill? I love the school and I know I will be applying for early action later this year so I want the best chances possible of getting in! Please comment, I know I don’t have “amazing” sats but please try to give advice on what I can work it. I guess I will start off with my EC’s.
Freshman- It’s not a EC but I received a academic award from my school for people with lots of rank points or 4.0 gpa. I also received an award for Honors Geometry but I can’t find the record of it so I might not include it in my resume.
Sophomore Year- I was in Key Club for a year about 15 hours of volunteer work. I was also involved in a club that went to an elementary school in the community and taught the arts such as guitar, key board, dance, and art to kids who have to be involved in a after school program. I was an art teacher and I would prepare art lessons and teach them on Wednesdays. I did this the last semester of sophomore year so about 15 hours.
Awards: Academic Letter from my school. I also lettered in my choir program.
Junior- I did the same volunteer program my first semester of junior year (about another 15 hours). I got inducted into NHS in October. I received a leadership position on my school’s choir council. I was a historian which meant I would promote the program with posters and advertisement along with being a leader in class and out of class.
I haven’t taken the SAT yet but I have taken the PSAT and I received a score of 177, which isn’t great but I plan on working on it. I was in the 90th percentile of math so I believe I have to just work on the other areas to shoot for a 1900-2000 SAT range with lots of practice and classes. I will probably be taking the ACT as well just for more support.
In AZ I was in the top 10% of my class (65/668) with a 3.91 after my first semester of junior year and a weighted gpa of 4.407 after my sophomore year (it definitely went up). I am taking as many honors classes I can and this year I am taking 2 AP classes (US history and Junior English) and next year I will take hopefully four more AP classes (Economics, Calculus or sats, Senior English, and maybe chemistry). The class size is smaller in my new NC school so I don’t know how I stand in rank yet but hopefully I am still in the top ten percent.
I plan on volunteering more in the community and studying hard for all of those exams, please let me know how to increase my chances.
Oh and by the time I graduate I will have NC in-state resident status.
