Chapman Fall 2013 Transfer

Ya I got to choose from chapman or lmu, so I’m not sure. It’s tough.

Congrats again! I’m in northern California so maybe tomorrow or saturday?

What does your Program Evaluation look like?

I can access it before I was accepted.
I already got my FA too, total mind blow 37.5k and my family is far from being poor.

No word of any letter and program eval is still mostly unfilled. Why doesn’t Chapman join the 21st century and just email decisions?

Hi Smalone3d,

Regarding your question “Why doesn’t Chapman join the 21st century and just email decisions?” You may gain some insight on Chapman’s admissions process from a post by Mahmah from an admissions blog shown below that was posted on CC on 03-14-2013. I know it is terrible waiting to hear whether you have been admitted or not; but knowing some of what is going on at the admissions office can be of help with the wait.

Decision Notifications for Freshmen Applicants Are Hitting the Mail Friday

It’s an exciting and overwhelming time of year for a lot of students waiting to hear back about their admission decisions from universities and colleges worldwide. Here at Chapman, our counselors have been busy reading for the past six months, navigating their way through more than 12,300 applications from wonderful students like you. It is an exciting time for us as we think about the future of Chapman and the limitless potential of students who have applied this year.

We are wrapping up reading the rest of the applications we have received. For those of you in the Regular Decision applicant pool, admission decisions have started to go out in the mail. Please be patient with us as we are getting thousands of decisions out in the mail every day. When a decision has been made on your file, the decision status on your WebAdvisor account will most likely change to “Decision Reached.” The decision letter still has to print, be matched up with your file, signed, placed in an envelope, and THEN be prepared for pick up. PHEW! This whole process of the letter actually getting mailed can take up to a week before it is sent on its merry way to the Post Office. Finally, depending on where you live, the decision will usually arrive within a week of it actually leaving our office.

Official admission decisions cannot be revealed over the phone by our office. Official decisions can only come through the mail and are not valid if received by any source (including coaches, academic departments, emails, etc.) other than our office.

We are very sympathetic with how stressful this process is for students who anxiously await hearing back from schools to which they have applied. So try to relax, because the culmination of the past four years of hard work will end up paying off as you start the next chapter of your life.

If you have questions, please let us know. Until then, enjoy the rest of your senior year!

Go Class of 2017!

@sukahjoy I’m starting to get this feeling u work for chapman :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Hi Hey#1,

It’s not the first time I have been asked this question. I am very inquisitive by nature and like to connect the dots that others don’t take the time to see; hopefully by doing so I have been a help to you. If not you can get help from others or figure it out on your own. The internet is an incredible place to find information. When I was your age I had to go to the library to get information.

It has been my experience that no one tied to Chapman University wants anything to do with College Confidential (CC). It is the same for other Universities as well from my experience. When I ask any Chapman University administrator, councilor or advisor for information about a question on a subject that comes up on CC they normally shut down telling me anything if I mention CC. The student assistants are more open to giving out information.

Just to let you know I am a parent of a freshman son (S) whom is attending Dodge College and have no connection to Chapman U. I did not even know about Chapman U before I started checking out colleges for my S because I did not live in the area. I spent the previous year (at the end of his junior year in high school at the time) gathering information for many different colleges to assist my son and he also used a paid college counseling service to help him go thru the process of searching for information and determining the best Film & TV Production Universities to attend in the USA. I personally went to UC Berkeley for my Bachelors and have no ties to NYU, UCLA, USC, UC Santa Barbara, Northeastern, Emerson & Chapman U; the fine Universities that my son was considering. I have three (3) degrees and what I thought was very important in a college based upon my experiences (not necessarily what my S thought because at first he wanted to attend a big university) was having small size classes where the Professor knows you and encourages you (note all classes at Chapman are taught by professors; no TAs) and when you graduate you have the knowledge, skills & internships availability to get a job in your field; Chapman was that school I thought was the best for my S’s major for his undergraduate work after all of the research I did and luckily for us my S came to the same decision on his own. Since southern California is in the middle of the Film & TV industry it made no sense to go to college anywhere else. My freshman S is already interning creating videos for a sports media company and has a radio show on Chapman Radio. It is so heartwarming that my S loves his classes and fellow students at Chapman. I can’t say I ever experienced that euphoria at any of the classes I took at the Universities that I attended.

I haven’t posted on this thread for a while but I was accepted in to Chapman Dodge College for advertising a couple weeks ago! I was actually planning on passing up Chapman but I visited today (it was commencement day so it was really packed) and Chapman is kind of wonderful.

The buildings are really nice and the campus small and cozy. The students are all model-worthy and everyone seems pretty happy. Dodge college students were hard at work on their projects and preparing for some awards show. It was something to walk around and see all the hard work people were putting in.

I also got quite good financial aid but I am a little worried. Chapman is a bit too small think and too close to home. I kind of wanted to transfer a bit further away and be more independent. Secondly, Chapman’s reputation doesn’t go out of Orange County really and has a small alumni base. I’m sure with dedication I wouldn’t have problem with jobs and internships though.

Edit: I got into Boston University for advertising there as well and that is most likely where I am headed. Also waiting on USC though for comm.

@heyheyhey1 I was request to send in midterm grades too…do you know why they ask for them?

@uschopeful they don’t have til the end of the school year to make their decisions for some people.

@heyheyhey1 Thanks…is it a good sign?

I’m just curious since I got a straight acceptance last year when I had less than 30 credits and now I got it now when I’m transferring as a junior.

My dad just told me my acceptance letter arrived late yesterday.

I’m in! So excited. Still waiting on USC, but I would be more than happy to attend Chapman.

Some stats:
Major: Digital Arts at Dodge College
4.0 GPA, something like 50 units done
My dad said there was a letter for the Trustees and Founders scholarship for $10,000 yearly. Wasn’t anything else for need-based aid yet, I’m hoping that comes through soon too because my parents are divorced and my EFC is literally 0.

Applied 3/14. Asked for my math grade 5/08, decision reached 5/14. Got the letter yesterday, 5/18.

On WebAdvisor: My program evaluation is still empty. No financial aid report yet. Maybe this stuff will populate next week.

To those who haven’t heard back yet: hang in there! You’ll find out soon enough.

Accepted: Dodge screenwriting

GPA 3.29

Awesome essays and kept showing my interest in the school.
Also alot on my creative r

It’s been a while since I’ve been on, but just thought I’d let you know I’ve been accepted to Chapman for screenwriting! I’ve also been accepted to USC and LMU, and I’ve been waitlisted by NYU. It’s really exciting, but also super nerve-wracking! Chapman and LMU have offered excellent financial aid, and while USC is my top choice, admittedly, I don’t know what financial aid they have to offer, and I don’t think I can afford to go into debt no matter how much I want to go there. I feel so lucky, but decisions are hard xD

If it helps for future applicants, my GPA in high school was a 4.1 on a 4.0 scale; my current GPA is 3.72 on a 4.0 scale, and I go to a small liberal arts university in the midwest. I’ve been writing since before I could actually write, I analyze everything, and I did a ton of extracurriculars in high school and stayed involved my freshman year of college. In my application essays, I was very honest and candid, and I tried to provide a variety of writing samples. For any writing major application (or for submitting any piece of writing ever), the best advice I can offer is never to submit your first draft, no matter how perfect you think it is.

Descriptions of the schools (but not NYU bc I didn’t visit there):

Chapman - Beautiful campus; safe, well-to-do suburbs; a very friendly but not very diverse student body; a lot of Greek life, but more service-based and less stereotypical; Dodge students seemed a little separated from the rest of the school; Dodge had a very “industrial” feel; would need a car if planning to get internships or travel frequently; very bikeable; Some fraternities and sororities were having a fair by their main fountain

Loyola Marymount U - BEAUTIFUL campus; safe neighborhood; great location; a friendly, “chique” student body, a fair amount of diversity; personable professors (at least in the School of Film & Television); said School of Film & Television had a very “homey”, comfortable feel to it; lots of service opportunities; would definitely need a car; they had puppies, and I saw a guy dressed up like Gandalf who wore a sign saying 'You shall not pass" and blocked part of the path (it was kind of awesome)

University of Southern California - beautiful campus; not such a great surrounding neighborhood; a friendly, more laid back, and very diverse and active student body; tons of extracurricular opportunities from traditional Greek life to service orgs to (my favorite :P) little ‘geeky’ clubs; the Harvard of film schools; could do with a Zip car for the first year and get your own car for the last 2; the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” thing was going on, and there were some other guys advocating for children’s rights

Hope this helps!

@hopethisworks congrats on getting into all those schools! Thanks for the info about your first impressions of those campuses. I’m still waiting on USC, and at this point due to the amount of aid chapman is giving, I’m probably going there. And I’m totally happy about it!

Hey everyone! I applied to the screenwriting program at Dodge. A decision has just been reached as of 5/23. I live approximately 25 mins. away from the school. To those who live close, how long did it take for your acceptance/rejection letter to come in the mail? I’m really anxious to find out my answer. I went onto webadvisor thinking that if I had been accepted that the “student’s menu” would have populated with more info than it had in the past when the decision was still pending. Was this the same for you? At what point if your accepted does that part of the site recognize that you’ve been admitted?

Thanks in advance

^ Hi Zorro123 my incoming freshman daughter had her ‘decision reached’ on March 9th and the webadvisor gave it away on March 16 and subsequently the big envelope arrived the same day, Saturday the 16th The waiting is killer I know, I wish you the best of luck. We are close to Chapman…10-15 minutes drive.

omgomg decision reached. Here we go…

Accepted into dodge screenwriting!!

HI everyone! anyone else been accepted into the business school?!

nice to meet you all! :)
