Chapman or Santa Clara?

Let me start out by saying I am a male, hs senior from Seattle, WA. I have family in L.A., and visit at least once a year. I’ve only been around the Santa Clara area twice. I plan on pairing a journalism degree with some field of study in business, and want to attend law school after.
I got accepted to both EA, and received considerably more money from Chapman, but I have close friends at both and have also obviously heard great things about both schools.
I would greatly appreciate some insight, what sets the two schools apart, etc…
Anything helps, I’m a fan of both schools and just want to get some perspective.
Thank you!

Thanks for your post. My son is in the same situation, although we live only about 45 min from SCU. I hope a fresh post will shed light on this topic and generate feedback.

I’m a freshman at Chapman and I’m from the Bay Area, so I’ve seen SCU a bit and have a few friends who go there. I I’m loving Chapman so far! They have a great business program with a lot of students in it (so if you ever need help, you don’t have to go very far…the dorms are also housed by different schools, so you would be living with business majors) as well as a journalism program. I’m not sure what type of journalism you want to study (print?) but they have great programs. Broadcast journalism is in Dodge College which is the film (and media arts) school, and being in Dodge will give you so many opportunities (I’m in Dodge!). We also have a student newspaper, magazine, broadcast program (Chapman News), and radio station (Chapman Radio, where anyone can have a channel).

The scholarship is a huge plus and that was one of my deciding factors for Chapman! The environment is great and SoCal is amazing—only an uber ride away from Disneyland, beaches, hiking, etc. I think a huge thing that sets Chapman apart is the film school. It’s such a huge culture and part of the school, and many of my friends are on set filming for senior theses every weekend. I don’t really know much about SCU but that’s my two cents on Chapman!

Thank you so much for your post…I’ll make sure my son sees this.

Both are good schools but they have a very different intellectual/acadmic feel between the two schools. SCU is anchored with engineering and business, where Chapman is influenced a lot by the large film population. Not better or worse, just different. If you visit or go to an admitted students day at both schools you will see it.
