Chapman vs USD vs SCU

I am interested in hearing from anyone who can tell me more about the differences. I have been accepted at all three with merit scholarships, and I will be majoring in business (most likely marketing/entrepreneurship). If you can help me with my decision process, I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks much!

I have friends at both. Actually, my sister studies at Chapman as a business major, and just switched her emphasis from entrepreneurship to marketing! She loves the Argyros School, and the campus as well (which I can second-- I’ve just committed as a theater major). The area is terrific, the connections are top-notch, and there’s a great feel on and around campus-- everyone is proud to be a Panther, and the local community is very welcoming and supportive.

USD is a great school too. My best friend (her boyfriend as well) goes there, and he’s happy in pre-law, but there are some drawbacks that led me to dismiss it, despite it being in my hometown. For one, there’s the religious atmosphere. They’re not hostile to anyone and are in fact very open to people of all creeds, but I found the overt Catholicism to be a little off-putting-- I didn’t grow up around it, so that struck me as a bit odd. Then there’s the neighborhood: San Diego is a beautiful city, but Linda Vista, the community surrounding USD, is a bit seamy and it really limits one’s ability to go off-campus at night. Finally, USD doesn’t really have the national prestige that Chapman does-- for business and fine arts, it’s widely recognized as one of the nation’s best schools, at least on the West Coast. USD’s influence is a bit more regional, and it isn’t quite as much of a standout in undergrad business.

I can’t speak for Santa Clara, but if you had to choose, I would strongly endorse Chapman. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your reply, StrangeBro. Do you happen to know why your sister switched her emphasis from Entrepreneurship to Marketing? What has she thought about her classes/professors, and has she had any difficulty registering for courses? (I am wondering why the graduate-in-four-years rate isn’t higher.) What does she think about the internship opportunities in Marketing or Entrepreneurship?
