Character Review Committee

In my personal statement, I had mentioned that I had had alcohol. I was talking about learning from my experiences and whatnot and I made it clear that it was a mistake and I learned from it, but I got an e-mail from the Character Review Committee asking me some questions about my "incident with alcohol."

Apparently, they are required to investigate anytime they get a whiff of underage drinking, but the officer who e-mailed me said it wasn't a big deal.

Does anybody else have experience with the Character Review Committee?

Wow... dude thats pretty gutsy that you mentioned that in the personal statement. I don't know anyone else who had someone contact them for those reasons. A funny story that might make you feel better is that my boyfriend who applied to USNA c/0 2011 (the one at WPI I told you about who loves NROTC) put a check in the box for bed wetting. ha.

I put in a run-in with the cops in my personal statement. I didn't have a record, and could have gotten away without mentioning it, But it was a major event in my life and taught me some good life lessons, so I spun it in a way that showed how I had learned from it much the same way that you seem to have mentioned... From a 3rd party perspective it seems almost comical the lengths they are going with this "character review committee." I know you probably may not see the same humor that I do as your going through the process. It does seem like a bit of overkill, seeing as I would bet a strong majority of each incoming class drinks on a semi-regular basis.

I'm not worried about it. I talked to the LCDR in charge on the phone and he said its standard procedure and my app should go in front of the selection board this coming Thursday.

At first I was really confused, because I have nothing on record and forgot I put it in my PS.

Indeed perspective is everything. And in this case there is only one that matters,i.e. the character committee at USNA. I doubt they find this one bit comical, humorous or overkill. itlstallion has illustrated well the point that few give this the seriousness it merits. It appears that the USNA does, though.
