<p>It’s had a couple of different business programs for decades. It’s just that AEM has been named.</p>

<p>yes, this will change (hopefully) how well-known AEM is among prospective students. one of the major problems that AEM ambassadors have been trying to work on is recognition… since a lot of us dont even know about AEM until senior year or 'til it’s too late. we were actually debating where they could put AEM and this was brought up, along with how it would be great if Mr. Dyson would donate and have AEM named since he already donates for scholarships… and voila it happened lol.</p>

<p>i dont know that it would become a full blown “school” or college like hotel or ILR… especially since CALS is land grant and NY residents get reduced tuition. that would be a whole other administrative challenge…</p>
<p>i dont think having a name associated with AEM has everything to do with prestige… i just feel that now it would be easier to refer to the “business program” of cornell as the dyson school instead of a “department” within the Ag school.</p>

<p>you mean other majors in CALS? they arent affected at all. it’s just a name change and some funding for AEM (i think). how exactly AEM will change… we’ll have to wait and see?</p>

<p>There was a lot of talk of merging AEM with PAM, ILR, and the various other “business programs” (AKA hijacked majors) into one big 'ol school to save money. I guess this puts the kibosh on that, which I’m grateful for.</p>

<p>Other colleges definitely have specific schools for majors. There’s a School of Applied and Engineering Physics for Engineering Physics Majors in the College of Engineering. Just Google it. The fact that AEM has now it’s own school probably won’t impact the students much, just the recognition.</p>
