and failed. Instead, he ate all the running plays on the playbook in the last 2 minutes

Did you intend the crass reference to Charlie’s surgery? He had weight loss surgery and almost died and then pursued a lawsuit abut it. Not a cool reference, if that’s what you meant.

No, it’s because Weiss mentioned how hungry he gets when undergoing criticism. He most probably meant “hungry” as in “the desire to succeed.” So, the statement is a combination of a play off of words and a joke based on the fact that Weiss did not coach very well during the UM-ND game.

Most people believe that had Weiss called running plays in the last 2 minutes when ND had the ball, Michigan would have been forced to use their timeouts (the clock doesn’t stop after running plays unless the runner goes out of bounds), game time would have expired, and Michigan never would have scored the game-winning touchdown (it occurred in the final seconds). Instead, he called passing plays which ended up being incomplete. If a passing play is incomplete, the clock stops after play.

I agree he mismanaged the end of the game.

Notre Dame needed a first down to seal the game 'cause Michigan could tie it with a field goal. I can understand passing on 2nd down as Allen twisted an ankle on the previous series. But passing again on 3rd down? Old Charlie just blew it…

Disagree. Run on second down to burn one more time out and see how much you gain. If you are 3rd and short, run again and hope for a first down… worst come to worst you burn Michigan’s final time out. If you are third and long, then you pass it, you still would have burned 1 of Michigan’s timeout from 2nd down and since running for the first down is not as likely, passing would be justified.

Either way, passing long is idiotic at best. Why not do a long screen that they had success all game long? It is a high percentage pass and as Weis said it himself, Michigan loaded the box to stop the inside run…yea… just dumb all around. He was outcoached.

All I know is it appears that we have a smart quarterback who is unflappable. Forcier is going to be a lot of fun to watch over the next few years.
