Hey, a good friend of mine (that I was in CHASS Connect with last year) is going to be your peer mentor for the CHASS Connect: Haunted World sequence! He’s super chill.

Your peer mentors (there are two for each sequence) lead the workshops. For the first quarter, the workshops teach you about college resources and how to adjust to college life. Second quarter, you learn about public speaking. Third quarter, you learn about resume writing and interviews – career stuff. There’s little assignments too… but they’re REALLY not a big deal… Just stuff like writing a sample resume, for example.

It IS part of your grade (Pass/Fail), so if you miss more than three workshops a quarter, you automatically lose 10% of your overall grade.

No, don’t drop out! I think that’s one of the best sequences in CHASS Connect this year – you’re lucky! You probably won’t get this unique set of classes and learning experiences ever again, to be frank. What CHASS Connect does is create unique classes taught by professors who really do have a genuine interest in teaching the material. I was looking at the course sequence and it sounds awesome! It’s not meant to scare you; you’ll be studying it academically. As far as I know, UCR doesn’t (or hasn’t been lately, anyway) offer any film classes around genres other than those of ethnicity like French, Latin American, Vietnamese, German, etc. They probably won’t even offer those because of budget cuts. Which is a bummer for me since I’m a film major. :/
