ok, so orientation is the last day of july for me, for those that are CHASS students and have already been to orientation, hows it been? more specifically, what type of classes were available for you? which ones are required?

I ll tell you sunday I have it this week. I am so looking forward of driving 2 hours in IE traffic >.<

lol thanks man

Yeah. The CHASS only orientation is this Friday and Saturday. ;p There were some that went earlier though. (: I’m CHASS toooo!

Regarding classes… [UC Riverside - Schedule of Classes](<a href=“Select a Term”>http://classes.ucr.edu/) you can check availability there.

LOLJK. CHASS only jst passed. awkletjalw x.x lolol. I’m worried about getting my classes now. -.- …

By the way, did EVERYONE sign up for classes day 1 of orientation?

You can only sign up for classes on the second day of orientation, along with everyone else

LOL OMGGG ): sigh. How many people were at your orientation?

Dunno

I heard 400 at one point, from a worker in the cafeteria, but that wasn’t official or anything

i wonder how big our freshmen grade is…

man, now I’m REALLY worried. I shoulda signed up for orientation on the 8/9 ahaha.

whys that?

classes fill up

ohh…dammit, didnt think of that.

I went to the Honors Orientation, and I’m in CHASS. I had priority registration, so basically all classes that were generally available for freshmen were available to me. (Not bragging…only saying ;_; )

There were about 400 students at my orientation since it was all Regents/Chancellors/Honors kids.

It really depends on which major you’re in, what classes are you placed in based on your Math and English results (AWPE/MAE), and what AP tests you’ve passed.

I think the breadth requirements for CHASS is the same for all majors within this college. But even if you don’t get the class you want for Fall quarter there’s still a chance to get it in Winter quarter.

During the second day (according to what I’ve through) of orientation, you meet up with your advisors based on your major. They help you decide which classes you should take for the Fall quarter. You are REQUIRED (I don’t think so, since they never checked us) to write up one schedule you want to have in Fall Quarter, and two alternative ones in case your first choice schedules is filled, on this yellow sheet they give you at the beginning of orientation. I would suggest to write more than three, but that’s just me.

Do students take ID pics day1 or day2?

We take ID pictures on Day 2, but we don’t get them until the Welcome package comes or something. I don’t really know what the schedule is for the CHASS only orientation, but for mine, we took our pictures after registering for classes.

what else did you guys do (briefly)?

Introduction for ucr …Learn about your major and what is expected… talk about housing… check out clubs…

For Day 1, we met up with our orientation counselor (goes by major). Then we played games and got to know each other in the group. After, we had a welcome session where you recite cheers and stuff (it’s REALLY fun). Lol. Go to lunch. Then we had an introduction of our college. (for me it was CHASS haha.) After that, we went to the rec center for the Playfair, but if you didn’t take the MAE or get placed in a math class, you take the MAE while everyone is having so much fun. After, it’s dinner from the HUB and then going to a Student Expo about some of the organizations on Campus. (it was mostly Greek sororities) After, you go do the “Common Ground” (you’ll find out when you’re at orientation…it’s REALLY cool, I loved it) and watch a play which was acted out so well. After all that, you can either go back to the dorms and sleep or have fun with the activities going on at Pentland. (no real curfew, just stay on Pentland grounds)

For Day 2, you go to a lecture thingy on how to register for classes. Then there’s a CHASS Learning community presentation. Then you go off with your group to meet your major advisor and they help you set up for classes you might want to take for Fall quarter. All questions you have about your major can be asked here I guess. Then it’s lunch. After lunch, you go register for classes and take your ID picture. Then after all that you go to a lecture about housing. Finally after all that, it’s the closing ceremony and you go back to pack up and go home.

Note: This is based off how I went through during Honors Orientation. I’m from CHASS and this is how CHASS people went through orientation (generally speaking). lol It might not be entirely similar to the CHASS only orientation, but that’s just how mine went.

thanks a ton Forevermore for the detailed agenda for orientation.

Since i am also CHASS, I guess it will be identical.
thanks again.
