Hi Pitt Peer Advisor do you know anyone who did the Pitt Odyssey summer camp and what they thought of it?

Hi Rocknroll52,

Unfortunately, I do not know anyone personally. The camp is operated by Pitt’s First Year Experience organization. If you’d like, you can contact them at 412.648.2172 or fye@pitt.edu

can you answer the question that i posted for pitt?

Hi xkmh427x,

Unfortunately, I cannot directly answer your admissions question. Myself and the other peer advisors on this site generally are here to answer advising or life-at-Pitt questions, and to correct misinformation. Unfortunately, we cannot speak for the admissions office or answer questions regarding admissions and applicants’ high school statistics, such as yours, as we do not want to misinform anyone. If you’d like to speak with a representative in Pitt’s Office of Admission and Financial Aid, you can call 412-624-7488 during regular business hours.

Hello,

Just a friendly reminder that this is the last week that peer advisor chat will be available! We are available to speak with you between 3-8pm today (Monday) and this Wednesday as well. If you have any questions about Pitt that you’d like an answer for, just follow the link to the chat that is posted at the beginning of this thread. Thank you!

Hi peer advisors (what a great idea!)

Can you give some thoughts as to whether or not Pitt would be considered a “suitcase” school? Do a noticable number of students go home for the weekends? Do you feel that most students find enough to do on-campus for weekend activities, or do many end up doing off-campus stuff (or leaving town altogether)?

Also, do you have any additional info about Honors housing moving to Sutherland next year? Will honors have a wing, and athletes a separate wing, or alternate by floors, or all mixed together…?

Thanks for your insights!

Hi WalkingTessie,

I’d definitely say that Pitt is not a suitcase school. I don’t think a noticeable number of students leave campus on weekends. Regarding staying on or off-campus for weekend activities, while many stay on-campus because there’s plenty to do around the campus, Pitt students are able to ride the Port Authority buses for free, so it’s common for students to go to some of the surrounding neighborhoods or downtown for weekend activities.

For proof that Pitt isn’t a suitcase school: I’m a commuter and I spend most of my weekends on Pitt’s campus.

To answer your question about honor’s housing, it seems as though the honors students will have their own wing. Here is a link for more information…

Hi peer advisors!

Im a Australian-American citizen currently looking at a few schools to apply to, and Pitt has really jumped out at me! I only have a few basic questions about Pitt that I want to ask from an advisor, but because of the time difference, I am never on in time for the advisors
:(

So I was wondering if you could answer them?..

The main ones I want to know are: What is the student moral (or school spirit) like at your school? How far away from the main area of Pittsburgh are you (and is this helpful)? And finally what are the dorms like (both size, location and if they are fairly modern)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi again everyone, just another reminder that you can chat with a Peer Advisor right now! We will be available until 5pm EST today, and every Monday and Thursday for the remainder of the summer.

Just click on this link and you’ll reach us directly: [Chat with an Advisor | University of Pittsburgh Undergraduate Advising Instant Messaging and Forums](http://www.as.pitt.edu/undergraduate/advising/imforum/chat-advisor)

Hi TrueBlue92,

I would definitely say that the morale here is pretty high! Here in Oakland, we’re very supportive of our sports teams, our clubs, and defintitely the students! it makes for some really fun times at football (american) games, basketball games, and …well, you name it, we have it! In fact, last year Pitt’s Quidditch team came in third at the national World Cup, and we were really excited to hear that! What’s more, there’s Pittsburgh’s own teams: the Steelers (american football), the Penguins (hockey), and the Pirates (baseball). We adopt them into our campus life as well.

In addition to sports, students have so many clubs and activities to get involved in, you dont have time to be bored. Did you know that we have over 400 clubs and organizations on campus? (a detailed list can be found here: [Student Organization Resource Center](<a href=“SORC | Student Affairs”>http://www.sorc.pitt.edu/)). There’s a neverending list of things to do. (For example, one weekend we had Ke$ha come host a concert for Bigelow Bash, a carnival held every spring on campus. Thousands of people from Pitt, and the surrounding
community came. You can read about it in the Pitt News: [Ke$ha performs at Bigelow Bash | The Pitt News](http://pittnews.com/photoshoot/keha-performs-at-bigalow-bash/))

As you can see, Pitt is pretty tied into the city of Pittsburgh itself. We’re about a 5-10 minute bus ride away from the heart of downtown. It certainly makes attending the myriad of offerings at the cultural district so much easier. Pitt also has a program called Pittarts, which offers incredible discounts. [PITT ARTS : University of Pittsburgh](<a href=“PITT ARTS | Student Affairs”>http://www.pittarts.pitt.edu/) the buses are free with your Panthercard. We have a saying here: “the city is our campus”, and it really emphasizes the fact that we see learning occuring not just in classrooms, but in the community around us as well.

Dorms on campus can vary in terms of size, modernity and proximity to campus. there’s detailed information here:[Housing Map](http://www.pc.pitt.edu/housing/halls/index.html).

Hope this helps, and HAIL TO PITT!

Hi Pitt Advisors! I was just wondering what factors may make an applicant go on the waitlist? Is it Standardized test scores that are below the middle 50% average? Not enough extracurriculars? Just wondering because Pitt is my first choice! Thanks! :)
