Yeah, I decided that consequential/utilitarian ethics were really dumb, so I adopted virtue ethics instead. Haven't looked back.

Anyway, I don't think it's at all fair to make a statement about Guevara's "contempt for human life." He gave up his own life for others', after all, when he could very well have lived comfortably as a doctor. By and large, the common people of Latin America were slaving under corrupt, brutal regimes. If Che Guevara was forced to resort to extreme methods to end these regimes, it is a reflection on the environment he was placed in, not on his character.

Che himself wasn't a "horrible Communist." He really had strong intentions for his view of government IF you actually read his diaries/journals.

Kind of reminds me of Mein Kampf and the Little Red Book.

I don't know if you've actually read what he has written. He traveled all of South America and even some of North America in order to learn about the situation of the world. He saw plight, despair, poverty, illiteracy and hunger and decided that Communism was the key to eradicating these problems. He knew where the problem was: in the government system. He sought to overthrow the government so that he could push forward a system that would help people who needed it. Mein Kampf was a real look at Hitler's insides - you could tell the hatred brewing inside of him when he wrote it - the German people were only looking for an impetus to seek vengeance for the costs of WWI. I think Che on the other hand, wasn't really acting out of hatred or intolerance, but was pushing the ideal that everyone deserved an equal opportunity of success in life. Btw, Cameron Diaz sporting a Mao bag is ridiculous. Also, addressing a topic of MelancholyDane, Che wasn't really trying to make reforms in an environment that was friendly to change. He was in government of ruthless dictators and autocrats - try telling them that you want reform. In that kind of environment, you have to face a decision when you petition for reform - fight back or be killed. That's what the American revolutionaries did, that's what Che did. It's the simple rules of revolution.
