cheap colleges that are easy to get into

hey so im looking for a college that is cheap and easy to get into. im an international student and ive been searching for what seems like forever so please if anyone knows a college like the one im looking for feel free to tell me…

Minot State https://www.minotstateu.edu/international/international.shtml

Maybe one in your home country?

Colleges that are inexpensive either give great need or merit based aid, making them super competitive to get into, or they’re close enough to the student’s home to make commuting possible. Do you have anything like that close to home?

I do not agree with the person above me. It’s a relatively small number of people who are able to cash in on meets need schools or get large amounts of merit aid. However, there are different college search strategies you should use depending on your stats and finances. Shopping as an international student is different as well because not all schools treat international students the same in terms of financial aid. If the FA works for you, go for it but shop carefully.

Off the top of my head, I’d look at smaller directional state schools. Wisconsin has a good and affordable state system with a number of good options. I know people who’ve gone on to excellent grad programs from these smaller state schools.

UW-Madison is the flagship and is considerably less affordable than other options. Not to mention, more competitive for entry especially for non-residents. However, for example UW-Eau Claire is 24,700 all inclusive for non-residents. Average ACT scores are 22-26, so not super competitive for entry. Other states have less known state schools that may be similarly priced. Minot State above looks super affordable too. Don’t think you need a big name school to get a very high quality education. Dig around into less known publics. Avoid big coastal cities.

The main problem with OP’s request is that no parameters are offered. For example, what are OP’s standardized test scores & budget ?

Depending upon OP’s budget, the University of Arizona & Arizona State University might be options to consider. Neither school requires standardized test scores & admission rates are about 80% & 87% respectively.

Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

@Publisher I read that was BAWLING green State lol.

How cheap? How easy?

Midwestern State in Texas, UW Lake Superior in Wisconsin, Mansfield U and Millersville in PA…

Weber State, Utah Valley University, UTEP, Wyoming, Southern Utah University

Southeastern Louisiana

Explore schools in smaller towns of Texas and look at regional campuses of A&M and UT.

UMaine campuses

Cheap as in till 15-20 thousand
Easy as in above 60% of acceptance rate @happymomof1

And thank you all for your reply …

That would have been optional if my country wasn’t in crisis … I’m looking into places where I have family … Hence America … But thankyou @GnocchiB

What are your grades and test scores? Is there any chance you could qualify for some scholarship money? I don’t know if there is anywhere in the US that an international student can study for only 15-20 thousand when all of the living expenses are included. Also 60% acceptance rate for US students won’t mean 60% acceptance rate for international applicants. It is almost certain that the acceptance rate for international applicants will be lower.

Can you live with any of the family members in the US so that your meals and housing are cheaper?

Here are the results from the College Navigator search engine, with “other” for your state, and $5,000 for maximum tuition and fees so that you have the rest of the money for meals, housing, books. transportation, clothing, etc. https://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/?s=all&l=93&ct=1+2&ic=1&tx=5000&ts=-2 Click through to the information about each place to check for costs for Out of State students. Pay attention. Some may have additional costs for international students.

Are you female? If so, you may want to try some of the women’s colleges. They have been known to give aid to interntational students, but I’m not sure if they qualify as “easy” to get into. They range, I suppose.

Try –

Simmons in Boston
Agnes Scott
Mills
Bryn Mawr
Mt. Holyoke
Smith

If those don’t work for you, maybe try–

U of Maine schools might work well. It’s a lovely state and the flagship (Orono) has a pretty campus. There’s also an international airport there. They may have a deal for you at the flagship or at some of the other campuses. Here is their International Students scholarship page – https://umaine.edu/international/scholarships/

SUNY system – some of the smaller schools – may be in your range.

Also look at the CUNY system – it’s one of the cheapest in the country even for out of state people and the educaiton can be excellent. The job prospects are also not bad as it’s in New York City. CUNY is a university SYSTEM in the city of NY. There are many campuses, ranging fro community colleges to four-year colleges and Tech programs. This links you to the search engine for what campuses offer what specialties – http://www2.cuny.edu/admissions/undergraduate/explore/programs/ Probably the cheapest campuses for living for you would be in Queens or Staten Island. Lehman in the Bronx is a good school and has nursing etc. City College in Hamilton Heights is near the new Columbia University campus that’s still being built. Brooklyn College has great writing programs and many other fine departments. Hunter is ionthe Upper East Side of Manhattan and is more “city”-looking college. Baruch is the business school and is quite good.

So . . . looking a little deeper at College of Staten Island, I see that it has 100% admissions rate. The OOS (out of state) tuition is not small but it offers significant merit money. Do they offer merit to international students? I’m not sure, but NYC has a huge number of immigrants and families new to the US. I would be shocked if at least some of that money did NOT go to international students.

Hopefully this link is allowed on this forum because it will show you some of the financials, merit money amounts –
