Anyone have any sources to cheap plane tickets from Los Angeles to Houston, and back?
I checked a few days ago and I found some REALLY cheap tickets ($59 each way!!). Unfortunately, those have disappeared and the cheapest I can find is $157 each way... I looked on Southwest's site, and apparently their cheap deals need a 14 day advance purchase. Unfortunately it is less than 14 days until Owl Days now :(

Why didn’t you book the fare when you saw it a few days ago? Remember you have 12 months to use the fare amount if you should have to change or cancel the ticket.

I booked mine Tuesday as I knew the 14 day advance purchase window was going to be tight and sure enough they did move up in price after Wednesday (by about $50).

Now you will just have to look around and get the best that you can find. Thursday afternoon and evening could be busier than normal as many people will have Friday off with a 3 day weekend.

So I really do not know A THING about plane tickets, and looked up “stand-by plane tickets” on Yahoo! Answers only to learn that they do not exist anymore because of security reaons?!? Erg… is it likely that the price will go up even more from now, because my family is debating on whether or not we should DRIVE (21 hours).

Congrats on your Rice acceptance, I hope you can make it for Owl Days. Houston is lovely in April.

I like this site for researching airfares, it looks at all the airlines.

[Cheap Flights, Cheap Hotels, Cheap Airfare, Airline Tickets, Travel Deals - SideStep](http://www.sidestep.com/)

If you can’t go to Owl Days - don’t worry. You’ll love your O-week in August!!! :)

[Southwest Airlines - What is DING!(R) ?](http://www.southwest.com/ding/)

Sometimes cheap tickets appear

Oh man… that ding this is so cool haha. Well i finally bought plane tickets today from expedia.com cause that’s where I found the cheapest as of now. $325. There’s a forum about how Rice is giving some people $300 reimbursement, I didn’t receive any information about that… though I think I have “high financial need” since they waived my Owl Days fee AND enrollment/housing deposit fee. Is it possible for me to ASK for reimbursement…?

^ Maybe you should now be looking at one of the other two Owl days if you want to visit. You are not going to get into the grove of things before around 4pm so I think you would have better luck and info if you just rescheduled for the next week or the last one with a full day visit. Plus you could get the 14 day advanced fare and save some $.

Do some checking into this option today while you still can. I think you will be able to use your ticket money as long as you stay on the same airline and you have 12 months to use any remaining credit. That is what I would do based on what you have describe.

Elrod, unfortunately they are only having one session of Owl Days. The only other option is Admit Days, which do not seem as in-depth as Owl Days (plus Admit Days are on Mondays, so plane tickets on Friday/Saturday/Sunday are still more expensive I think)
