Cheaper school vs prestige? (Iu bloomington vs boston univ

I got accepted to both and i cant decide which one. I am probably majoring in finance or some type of business stuff. I cant choose between iu kelley and bu questrom. I go free at iu kelley and 45k a year at bu. Iu kelley is ranked higher in business school undergrad and it is also cheaper. It seems like an easy choice but other ppl have told me that BU has more good opporotunities (lots of great internship opportunities with top companies in the u.s). And idk if bloomington area has a good opp
My parents are paying for the tuition but idk if bu is worth not going to iu kelley for free. Would i make less income or have less job opportunities because i went to iu kelley? My parents think it will be better for me if i go to a private school rather than a state school. Which one would be a better choice for me? What would ur choice be?

Since when does BU have significant prestige? This is a no brainer. IU Kelley is an excellent business school. You will not have less opportunities, probably the opposite. Going for free is the ultimate prestige.

IMO Kelley would be the “more prestigious” option AND it is free. I’d go to Kelley in a heartbeat. The extra $180k can be put to much better use elsewhere (ex. grad school if you desire, down payment on a house etc.). You can seek out internships etc. over summers.

Have you visited both? They are very different campuses…BU is urban without much of a campus and IU is in a college town on a really pretty campus. We are from the northeast and my daughter is a junior in IU Kelley…it isn’t close to free for us but if you do well in Kelley the opportunities are endless. Most grads in business end up in NYC, Chicago and Indianapolis if that helps. BU is a good school, but I only live hours from it and I don’t know anything about the business school. $180 more than IU? Yikes!

There’s no way I’d say IU is significantly less prestigious than BU. Might even be the opposite. Very easy choice!

I think they’re probably about even in prestige, and Kelley might be the most prestigious school or program at either university.

@prezbucky: IU also has a top-ranked music school and evidently is top-tier in ballet. Meanwhile, BU communications is evidently high up there.

But anyway, for business, I’d choose Kelley even if the price was the same. Companies come to IU to recruit. In Boston, BU would be, what? The 5th best local college in the eyes of locals?

@PurpleTitan Interesting thought. For business, BU might be #7 or lower to the locals. Harvard, MIT, BC, Tufts, Bentley, and Babson all have more local prestige. Even Northeastern might. I don’t get why OP thinks BU is anything special.

Seems to me Kelley for free would be a good “business decision.”

I agree with the majority here. BU is not more prestigious than IU. Both are great universities, but if the word “prestigious” is to be assigned here, it is to Kelley.

Why is this even a question???
