Cheating on SAT Forum

Did you guys see the post of from someone who posted a FULL passage which was EXACTLY the same as on 10/15’s PSAT? He posted it 10 days before the test! He posted 3 different questions, 10 days before the 10/15 test- all which were on the test. How does this happen? It was by user ‘Trevorhall’ and has since been taken down (although you can see a snippet by doing a search on author = Trevorhall. Disgusting. It means the test was leaked - some kid got their hands on it from the printing company or the College Board.

All those booklets have to be shipped to the schools. They are supposed to be stored securely and kept in their shrinkwrap at the school sites until the test. I don’t think it has to be someone who got it from the printing company or the CB. All that’s needed is a kid with bad intent and keys to the school. I don’t know how they are shipped or how early they arrive to schools, but 10 days early at some locations could be possible to ensure that all the shipments arrive in time. (Some have to get to U.S. territories and international locations.)

@suzyQ7, I looked at your profile and noticed you did not report the post. Moderators rely on the reports of users to deal with posts like that. If you don’t report them, we may not see them.

@MaineLonghorn It had already been reported by others… I came across the topic as it was being discussed in the PSAT discussion thread

Here we go again…there is discussion on specific questions on the Physics SAT2. Is this allowed?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-subject-tests-preparation/1822532-sat-2-physics-discussion-thread-nov-2015-p7.html (actually starts before p.7).

Shouldn’t be…

How is discussion of the answers after the test cheating? I know it isn’t allowed by the College Board but why do you all say that it is cheating? We don’t get an advantage by learning what the right answers are after the test. Just curious.

The college board reuses some questions and some tests, especially for international students, and their tests are not even given on the same day internationally (weeks apart). Domestically some of the cheating starts right when people walk out of the tests, and other time zones aren’t done and still have breaks.

Plus, it is against the rules and you sign something saying you won’t do it when you take the test. You signed your name saying you wouldn’t do it. Is your word no good? I know I try not to provide any help on other questions out here for students I know are cheating on this. I figure not only are they cheating on this, but they may very well cheat in other aspects in life. So I don’t particularly want to help them with other college admissions questions.

And… here we are, called out in an article in The Chronicle of Higher Education as a forum for SAT cheaters to post questions and answers. :frowning:

and…

just exchange info and talk about questions somewhere else

But talking about questions sis cheating. Just say no.

*is cheating. Missed the window to correct typo.

Maybe the mods can develop some kind of bot that stops questions and answers from being posted. I don’t think that is the hardest thing in the world to create, esp. when turned on only during the days/hours when tests are being administered. At least people may not be completely able to stop questions from getting posted, but they can still stop these students from cheating during test time.

=)) Sure. In my spare time. Perhaps the CB can stop reusing exams which would make this whole conversation moot.

I spent ONE day trying to delete all questions/answers on an ACT thread. It was literally a full-time job. Banning people didn’t help. New accounts kept popping up. It was way too much time for my pay grade.

I think that CC should hand over the info that they have to the CB and ACT. IP addresses included.

Or tech support, higher than at the level of the volunteer mods, should address this, so the fox isn’t running the henhouse. The mods are hard working volunteers. There are paid staff with technical skills. The cheating should be curtailed so cc can stay focused on what it is here to provide to students and families inthe college admissions process.
