Cheating on SAT Forum

What about the jailbars?

Nobody knows what offense the jail bars are for when they see them. I think the bars are weird too, but they’re not as bad as keeping a permanent shun list that says “Bodangles is a dirty rotten cheater and you should never help her ever.”

They disappear after a time.

@skieurope whats a jailbar?

They look like jailbars and appear over the user’s avatar. If you look on this thread you will find several users with jailbars.

^ Well those jailbars seem to be gone. How long is a person put in jailbars? A week? Two? Three?

Since when one is on an ipad or phone they can’t see who has been banned (no “mouse” to hover over the avatar) actually, a list of banned posters would be helpful, so as not to waste time posting to posters who cant respond. Seems helping the posters who are still here might trump the needs of those who aren’t. Just a thought.

So with the PSAT being administered on two different test dates (10/14 and 10/28) it makes me wonder how the
10/28’ers will benefit from those who take the test on 10/14. Forgive a newbie for asking…but is it the exact same test that is given on both dates? I was appalled at the specific questions being discussed.

If posters share questions, the alternate test takers will likely benefit, as there has been no indication that there is a second new/redesigned PSAT available, nor would they likely have been normed for concordance since it is new.

I can see just shutting down that forum for a few weeks. Jmo, it may not be CC’s responsibility, but it would keep it from facilitating this.

Good suggestion, LF.

Jym, I think intparent first said it. I’m just agreeing. We’ve had threads closed temporarily for a cooling off, then allowed back.

The mod response to the suggestion to shut down the forum for a few weeks: “It’s not fair to other users to shut down an entire forum every time there’s a US or international test date.”

CC isn’t going to anything other than post a warning, because, after all (response from another mod):
“Don’t forget, the College Board reuses exams for international tests. One can’t help wonder why they don’t just stop reusing exams.”

The 10/28 PSAT administration will be affected, and wait till the internationals start flooding this website (and perhaps others?) to find out the questions ahead of time for the first int’l administration after the March 2016 US test administration (first administration of the new SAT).

Don’t they usually have different tests for the two PSAT dates and multiple Forms for each? It seems like they were different last year when the kids were talking about the reading passages on the 10/15 and 10/18 tests. Why would it be different this time? (Especially since the dates are farther apart this year.)

Concordance testing could involve sharing a few questions between the test forms, I suppose, though I don’t know much about how concordance testing is done. They did run some pilot tests of the new PSAT back in the spring, but people said those were online and there were possibly computer issues, and also speculated that kids don’t care that much when they know it doesn’t count.

I believe they make twice the number of US SAT tests as one would think from the testing dates, because there is a 2 weeks later testing date for whatever schools had power outages, floods, tornado warnings, etc. There are always some of those, because it’s a big country.

Thank you for shutting down the cheaters!!

Yes, yay for that! Thank you!

I guess I don’t understand the jailbars very well. One poster who has had the for a few hours is still able to post. Does anyone else understand them?

Nope.

 Well if you don’t, there is no hope for us. Someone PMed me to say that a jailbarred person can’t start a new thread or PM. And that makes sense in the context of my question.

Just wondering, who go on the Prep section of CC the morning of the ACT/SAT when they’re taking a test?

Count me as a consumer who believes College Board and other companies who make millions of dollars on testing should not reuse whole tests. They are trying to be cost effective but technology and communication have caught up to them and because they charge money for this, it is their business to take reasonable steps to ensure fair testing. CC takes reasonable steps- banning the poster.
