check student grades

is it possible for parents to check student grades online ? like at high school, we can see every homework and tests.

Only if you have access to your child’s Onestart/Oncourse password. Just a a little advice…this is not high school

thank you. DS did not give me the password. Understand, this is not high school.

I remember reading somewhere that sharing your OneStart password is a violation of IU policy, even sharing with parents. My daughter did share her original password with me and I used it a few times over the summer. (I assume she has changed that horrible password by now.) As soon as she got to school I stopped using it for fear they might detect access from IP addresses in two different states on the same day. I would hate to be responsible for getting her account locked out or worse! So my advice is to get grade info through communication with your son :)

thank you, fully understand now.

The student can set up a “3rd party access” account through OneStart for his/her parent to access grades/transcript. This is different than the “Authorized Payer Access” which the student may set up for the parent to access/pay the bursar’s bills.

oh, really ? I will ask DS if he likes to set up for us. thank you so much.

Just a suggestion, you should let your son manage his own grades and academics–sure, ask to see a transcript at the end of the semester, but college classes aren’t structured such that you always know what your grade is. Sometimes 50% of the grade is determined using the final exam or project, so you can still fail a course even if you have an A going into it.

I know it’s hard to resist the temptation to manage your child’s life post-high school, but it’s for the best and ultimately will result in him becoming a fully functional, mature adult. Go out and find a new hobby, a new interest, or something to occupy that part of yourself that wants to constantly know what your DS is doing, where he is, and things like that

Re: my post #6

The “3rd party access” I mentioned is actually for final grades/transcripts/schedule. I didn’t read OP’s post closely enough to realize the desire is for grades in progress during the semester. I have never felt the need to scrutinize my kids’ grades during the semester as I would never have paid for them to go away to college if I didn’t think they were capable of handling their own affairs. I did want the third party access as our car insurance provider routinely asked for grades to verify eligibility for good student discounts.
