<p>The first term in the sequence above is a, and each term after the first is 3 times the preceding term. If the sum of the first 5 terms is 605, what is the value of a ? </p>
<p>Please post the answer and brief explanation (this is not a joke, I am either losing it or found a mistake in new BB).</p>

<p>1st term given - A</p>
<p>2nd term- 3A</p>
<p>5th term- 81A</p>
<p>Think of it like 3^0a + 3^1a + 3^2a + 3^3a + 3^4a = 605
a + 3a + 9a + 27a+ 81a = 605
121a= 605
a = 5</p>

<p>I have gotten the same thing. However, in test #4 in New BB, section 6, question 14, the answer says 6. I can only hope that this misprint is in BB only and not in the actual answer key when they score the friggin SAT I :-t</p>

<p>I did remember seeing a post on here with Misprint errors of BB. You could try searching for that.</p>
<p>its called a typo/misprint (the book says 6)…</p>
