Checking on Loan Status?

I applied for the Federal Direct PLUS Loan about a month ago, and I'm wondering how I check on my application's status? Is there a website I check in on to see the details, or do they mail you an accepted/declined letter?

Dunno. Some lenders have their own website. Some lenders have a third party guarantee and administrer the loan and you must go through the third party. ie. PHEA

We discovered that if you apply for Stafford/PLUS loans too EARLY, that the lender will decline the loan because they cannot verify your enrollment with the school. The school also may not be setup to accept a query in May, because they are working of 1) summer enrollments, 2) finalizing graduating seniors 3) figuring out if they have the proper number of students and income stream for the accepted students.

You may want to wait until after July 4, to make further inquiries. And be prepared to make another PLUS application at that time.

Bump for more info.

Our lender, at that time, had ACCEPTED or DECLINE. If you are expecting a PENDING, you may not see it.

Really isn't much to say other than what I have already stated. There will be many students who have applied for loans early (as we did) and will find out that they have either been declined or there is no record, (as we found out 2x)

If your lender has received the application, the lender must then contact the school for verification that you are/currently enrolled. As a incoming freshman, the school may show that you have been accepted but you are not yet enrolled.

If application has been made (how simple can you get), a credit check is done, verification of identify, verfication of your student's enrollment, the process is very fast. All told the process is maybe 1-2 weeks, if verifications can be made. Money will be sent to school, NOT to you the Parent and NOT to the student.

I presume that you did this online, as parent?

We also discover that the student must make a formal application to the school for financial aid. Our school it was, a single page requesting financial aid, with student's name, TIN, class standing. We forgot this page 2 of 4 years.

This has been our experience.
