Is it still possible to get an A in Chem 20A after an 81% on the midterm?
30% is midterm, 40%final, 30%HW + quizzes.

Sorry for the silly question, I don't understand how this works at all.

I never took Chem 20A, but it’s almost assuredly graded on some sort of curve (i.e. not straight scale and you don’t have to get a raw score of 90% to receive an A). It depends on how you performed relative to everyone else, if you ranked one standard deviation above the average on both exams you’d probably end up with an A, though the cutoffs vary with each professor and department. 81% seems awfully high for a Chem 20A midterm, so continue to do well and don’t worry about everyone else’s grades (which are out of your control but you’re the one who can determine your own performance and the pieces will fall in place)

Depends on the professor, as well as your class average. Good rule of thumb is to be 1 standard deviation above average. From what I heard, Scerri is easier than Felker (I had Gelbart, so can’t pitch in based on personal experience).
