Do both genchem professors teach equally well? Can you list out some pro/cons for each professor? Thanks so much!

Go with Frey. I’ve heard Mabbs isn’t bad, but the general consensus is that Frey is better. Sorry for the lack of pros/cons, but this is the answer I can offer you.

I’ve had Mabbs, I quite liked his teaching. So here’s what you do: sign up for one of the professors, attend one lecture from each of them, then simply go to the professor’s lecture you prefer. Since it’s a huge class, they don’t actually care if you go to the professor’s lecture that you actually register for.

I have a class that conflicts with Frey’s chem class, but I have to take the other class. Aren’t Frey’s lectures videotaped and put online?

All sections are recorded and you can actually choose to watch any of them.

So if you really want to, you can just watch all of Frey’s lectures online and not attend Mabbs’ class. But you should only do that if you’re confident you’ll watch every lecture and not get behind. Besides, Mabbs is pretty good from what I’ve heard. Just because Frey may be better doesn’t mean you’ll have a problem with Mabbs.

Like ravenzcroft says, it’s very easy to get behind if you plan on only watching the recorded lectures. I know quite a few people who kept putting it off day after day, until they eventually had to cram all the lectures in the week of the exam. That being said, if her teaching style really clicks for you, then go for it.
