<p>Do I need to take the Gen Chem series (1a, 1b, 1c) with in one year or can I spread it out? Especially if I'm looking to apply to medical school sometime in the future?</p>

<p>You can spread it out but you’ll need gen chem to get into ochem and several other classes and you’ll need ochem to get into biochem (all these required for med school) so its probably best to get genchem done in your freshman year. Check out the health advising pages:
