ChemE vs. Biochemistry

So here is the deal. Right now I'm really interested in science (still in high school), by the time I graduate I'll have taken: AP chem, AP physics, bio 105 (CAPP class), human genetics/biotechnology, into to bio at local LAC, and genetics at LAC. I've been looking at becoming a research scientist or molecular biologist with a focus on infectious diseases. So in college I'd end up being a pre-med x major. Now here is the hard part. As of now, my two big prospects are either chemE (most likely at UW Madison since I'm in-state, speaking of which they're killing Nebraska lol) or molecular biology at Macalester, St. Olaf, WashU, or UW Madison.

I know chemE would be extremely difficult, yet doable, but still end up with a lower GPA. However, if I don't get into med school, I could still work in something that is somewhat related to biological systems of some sort, right? Plus chemE provides a unique and technical perspective to biological processes which I find fascinating. I'm just inquiring regarding your advice because I'm really hung up on this :(

Thanks for your responses.

chemE all the way.

near 100,000+$ pay with just an undergraduate degree (so who gives a ***** about medical school)

can go into any kind of biological study for advanced degree

biochem cons:
no jobs after undergraduate
if you can’t get into med school, might as well settle for dental school lol

Chemical engineering is much better than biochemistry for job and career prospects at the bachelor’s level, but $100,000 jobs at the bachelor’s level is much higher than what career surveys indicate as being typical.

Most recent available (usually class of 2010) chemical engineering bachelor’s degree pay levels as of posting date:

Arizona State: $62,925
Berkeley: $63,656
CMU: $66,800
Georgia Tech: $67,000
MIT: $60,750
Purdue: $63,000
Virginia Tech: $65,000

it was a slight overestimate i admit xD
