One of the possible careers that I might want to pursue is chemical engineering, but I'd like to stay working in my area (New York City). My brother's friend who is a chemical engineer says that the pay is good for a chemical engineer, but there isn't a demand for those jobs in New York. Can anyone else give me their input on this if they're majoring in Chemical Engineering?

My husband is a Chemical/Biomolecular Engineer, and majored in that in college. We live in the Baltimore/DC corridor; there are a good amount of ChemE jobs in this area.
Other areas with a lot of ChemE jobs: Louisiana (Baton Rouge, in particular), California, Delaware, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
I wouldn’t say there’s a TON of ChemE jobs in NYC, but as a ChemE you can ostensibly get a job “anywhere.” It does depend on your specialty. Petroleum engineering would have different prospects than Production or R & D. With R & D you’d be likely to be able to stay in the NYC area, although maybe not in the city directly (probably N NJ).
