Chemistry 14A Course Credit?

I am a high school student deciding if I want to take Chemistry 14A or 20A for summer school. I plan to major in Biology. I know that 14A is meant for life science students but it also says on the UCLA site that the 14 series must be taken as a whole at UCLA.

Frequently Asked Questions

I don't know if that means I cannot get credit at another school or not.

Does anyone know if I can get credit for course 14A at another school if I don't attend UCLA for undergrad?

Thanks

You should NOT take Chemistry at another school, especially if you are doing the 14 series. Transferring courses in chemistry normally get a bit tricky and it might actually mess you up for health graduate schools in the future.

It’s best to take all of your chemistry classes at UCLA if you are doing the 14 series (much easier, well, in my opinion) also because the 14 series is MUCH shorter than the typical general and organic chemistry series at other schools so that is why chemistry courses from other schools WILL ALMOST ALWAYS Chemistry 20A (the physical science series that is much longer). The 14 series has only 2 general chem courses and 2 ochem courses and two labs total. Most other schools have 3 general chem and 3 ochem courses with 4+ labs. Most graduate schools DO recognize the UCLA 14 series when you are applying because many know about how UCLA is a bit weird with their life science series of chem. The 20/30 series has the typical length of chemistry courses.

Also, Chemistry 14B/Chemistry 20B (the second chem courses of each respective series) are NOT OFFERED during the fall.

On another note, you can be a bio major on the chemistry 20/30 series.

Essentially, taking chem over the summer would cause way too many problems. You’re better off taking something else. =D

I recently tried to enrolled a summer course with lowest level chem prerequisite in a community college. I used AP Chem, Chem 14A and 14B to wave the chem prerequisite, but I got denied. The reason was in assist.org, only chem20 series have agreement between UCLA and community colleges.

Why chem14 series are not part of agreements??

any ideas how to get community colleges recognize/agree/approve chem14 series?
