Chemistry/Biology Pre-med programs strength

Elon is the only private school my son has applied to ( and has been accepted).
He likes it very much ( may have something to do with the # of very pretty girls :) )
He spent an entire day there. Sure did love the food! lol!

He needs to evaluate the schools programs in chemistry, biology, pre-med ( or dental or other pre- professional) advising, as these are his interests (right now).
Does anyone have some input?
Thanks!

Congratulations. Elon is a fine school. Very nice campus, lovely people. I dont know anything however about the strength of their science programs. So here is what you do. You go online and check out elon's website and departments. Look at the faculty and ping one of them...preferably the department head. And they will undoubtedly reply back quickly. If that fails, call the school and talk to them. If you are instate, make another visit on your own and ask around.

Elon does a great job of getting its students wonderful internships, I do know that. And Science is no stranger to that either. Their students have one of the highest ratios of studying overseas too! There is a STRONG culture of inclusiveness at Elon.

Good luck..

How did he apply and get a decision already? I was under the impression only ED people knew so far. . .

Elon has an early notification program for NC residents only, I assume that's how he already has an admit. My son is not chem/bio or pre-med, but does hang out with several of them (long story short, even though he has no interest in med school, he's very active in a program that draws pre-meds like flies to honey :) ). They all seem reasonably confident that they will be admitted to good med schools. Biology seems very strong, what with the cadaver lab in the basement of the science buildling. Chemistry I'm not sure about, but again, the students that my son knows do feel that they are being appropriately challenged and educated.

He was awarded a NC Junior Scholarship last year, which enabled him to be accepted Sept 25th of this year! At least there was one we didn't have to wait on....relief!

Now it makes sense. I am so anxious to find out my decision! 35 1/2 hours away!

sorry, Rex... I know what the waiting is like, my son's friend heard from UNCW( he heard last thurs) even though the date they give to hear is 1/20, so we check the mail daily ....but nothing. It's weird!
GOOD LUCK!!!!

Thanks. I keep checking the OnTrack and it's been nerve-racking. It's not like I am checking and expecting the decision right now, but I do it anyways. I have been trying to keep myself busy but I can't stop thinking about it! Thanks NCMom.

i got my acceptance from uncw last week too! i was super surprised because i wasn't expecting it until mid january!

surfbilla...when did you get your application in? I'm wondering if there is a correlation between acceptance date and date application was sent....
thanks!

I am not sure of the overall strength of the premed program, but they do have some classes that you won't find many other places. They are one of the few schools to actually have a human cadaver lab for undergraduate anatomy. My daughter took the course, and while it was very hard, she loved it.

Well, working on a cadaver certainly will weed out a few! Possibly my son (lol!), though he only seems bothered by his own blood :) !
