Chemistry June 2014 Regents Discussion

No you had to do both the oxidation and reduction reaction then balance the electrons

There goes my 100 streak…

Looks like its going to be 3, 2 if they are lenient wrong, not too bad.

answers are posted at

Guys for te one with the boiling point of ethanol, I might have put 77 I’m not sure. But would tht be included in the range of answers?

@Indiangurl‌ i got 79 but there is a plus or minus range, so i think your fine

Thank god I got the balancing one right

Okay! And for the one with finding the new pressure or whatever, I just set up a ratio. Is that okay?

For the question with the moles of co2
I got 7.72586
I got tht because I didn’t round off the mass of co2
Will it work?

@palamedes yeah I didn’t round off either…I hope it’s okay

For the one where u had to draw ethanol, I put my OH to the side of a carbon not on top, is that okay?

A 2.50-liter aqueous solution contains 1.25 moles of dissolved sodium chloride. The dissolving of NaCl(s) in water is represented by the equation below.

Is the answer .500M only or can it be .5M also?

I don’t think it matters?

@Indiangurl - Yeah, it’s the same thing.

@joshgindi - I don’t think you had to use sig figs.

@sunsh0wers‌ sorry about that. For which one is it the same thing? The organic compound one?

I am really stressing over this. For the first short answer question I only put electrons surrounding the carbon and not the bromine. This would be the only question I got wrong and I am praying it is right in some way even though I’m 99%sure it’s wrong.

I am so mad about this exam. I left it feeling extremely confident, but then I went to check my answers online at <a href=“Regents Chemistry Exam Explanations June 2014”>http://www.kentchemistry.com/RegentsExams/regents_jun_2014.htm</a> and I found out that I messed up the solubility curve question! I must have accidently misread the graph and put 74 instead of 79… so that basically blew my chance of getting 100! And it was such a stupid mistake too! Ahhhh I hate this exam. Sorry I really needed to rant lol. i’m done now. At this point I hoping that I didn’t screw anything else up and I hope I can get a 98. The curve for this exam is pretty bad… but at least its better than English!

@Indiangurl‌ - Yep, the organic compound one! OH-CH2-CH2-CH3 is the same thing as CH3-CH2-CH2-OH, which are the same as placing the OH on top of one of the outer carbons. :)

@gogirl08 - I feel the same way about the curve. /: The score you get should just be the number of questions you get right out of 85.

How did u guys set up the equation go find te new pressure?

@Indiangurl‌ i did 6.(some#) / by 293K = x/313K
