Chemistry Major at University of Washington?

Hello all,
I was admitted to UW as a pre physical science major. I am really considering UW and I was wondering how difficult is it to get into the chemistry major at UW? Also how good is the chem department? Are there good research opportunities? and how difficult is the major overall? Thanks!

The chemistry department is awesome at UW. Very challenging, according to one of my best friends who is majoring in chem, but well-known. I think if you maintain a strong GPA and build good relationships with your freshman-year chemistry professors, you will be in a good place to get admitted to that program as a sophomore (when you declare your major). David Ginger (one of the main chem profs) is apparently awesome; but on their degree website it says undergraduate research is strongly encouraged, so I would feel like there would be great opportunities there. If you want to learn more, you can contact professors in that major, talk to admissions, or do some research on their website.
