Chemistry Major - UCSB or Cal Poly SLO?

I already posted in the Santa Barbara thread but thought I would try here also to get additional opinions.

My D was accepted at both UCSB and Cal Poly SLO as a Chemistry major. Her plan is to eventually get a Masters in Forensics. I am looking for anyone who may have knowledge as to the inner workings of the SB Chemistry program. Is there much hands on learning for Undergrads? Cal Poly’s motto is “Learn by doing”. When we were there for Open House the Undergrads were showing us around the various labs and pointing out the different equipment that they got to use all of the time. They kept stating that the opportunity to use this same equipment would not be available at a UC. That the UC may have the equipment but that only Profs., Grad. students, and TA’s would have access. Does anyone have any idea if this is true? Or where I might look to find an answer? I appreciate the input!

Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts?

i dont think thats true about uc students not being able to use the equipment
at berkeley, they really promote undergrads doing research with professors and how there are a lot of opportunities.
more hands on at cal poly but i think that she should choose simply by making a list or choosing based on which campus she prefers

Thanks, mtb1226!

definately ucsb...they have multiple professors who have just won nobel prizes in chemistry that teach classes. The best bet is once in ucsb..to transfer to the college of creative studies as a chem major. You get to do tons of research and basically design your own plan. You get so many other privileges being in that too. It's not very difficult to get into and is definitely worth attending.

Really appreciate your response! Looks like UCSB is the front runner for D.

also, i think that grad school opps are more accessible from ucsb
i personally like both ucsb and slo, but i got into my top pick...cal, so thats where im going
but ya
everyones input is pretty spot on
