Hi there! I am applying to Cheshire Academy as a day student. Does anyone who has gone there or knows someone who went there have any insight for me? I know the basic information, but I am looking for info on the community there and personal opinions and experiences. I know that it is not the most famous of schools, so I haven’t heard from many people about it. Thank you!
Hi. Have you visited Cheshire? We visited last fall with CTKid2, who would have applied as a day student. Our interest stemmed from proximity (he isn’t applying to BSs) and their substantial learning center. He didn’t apply but that was largely because it didn’t really work logistically for him to attend as a day student, and he didn’t love it enough for us to make it work. I wasn’t overly impressed by the tour guides, in terms of being poised, knowledgeable and able to answer certain questions accurately, but as compared to tour guides at other schools, they were middle of the pack — not “bad” by any means. We know one kid who attended for freshman year but left purportedly due to bullying, but I don’t know ANY details — there may have been other unrelated factors. We know a number of kids who attend as day students and are perfectly happy. There is a large day student population, as it’s in a relatively affluent area and is a good alternative to the LPSs in a number of towns for people who aren’t Interested in boarding. I can’t say how this affects the culture or environment. I have heard other things from a former faculty member, but it’s hearsay and may be out of date. While it’s obviously not one of the more prestigious BSs, it has a very good reputation locally. If you want to PM me I’m happy to answer what I can, including about the local area.
I did visit earlier this month. I know it is not as academically rigorous, but I was wondering if anyone thought otherwise.
@lightningqueen12, I don’t have any more information than you do, but on the whole I was pleasantly surprised by the school (and we visited on a cold, rainy, icky day). I think the IB program is noteworthy.
Ok, thank you!
