Would Chi Omega be hard to get into for an Indian with no personal connections to the sorority? if not then what are the requirements?
I would visit the SMU Panhellenic website for more information about going through recruitment. All PNM’s go through every sorority house the first day of rush (which is in January at SMU, right before the spring semester starts) - you preference your top houses and they preference their top PNM’s - and the process continues like this until you are down to your final choices. Heading into this process with only one sorority in mind is setting yourself up for serious disappointment. I would suggest getting involved in a variety of campus activities when school starts and meet as many people as you can - both Greek and non-Greek. You may be invited to go on rush dates in the fall to meet people from different houses as well as participate in their philanthropy events. There are rules about how they can contact you though. There are no “requirements” - just be yourself and let the process lead to the best fit. It would be wise to request recommendation letters from 1-2 alums from each of the SMU sorority houses this summer and fall - they will most likely submit them online on your behalf. I think there are Panhellenic offices? in Dallas or TX than can help you with that…I’m not sure. If you or your family posts on FB or something, you might be able to round up enough people that way through your personal connections. It’s really hard to say what is “hard” to get into - but Chi-O is not terribly “easy” to get into at SMU…often legacies from all sororities don’t even get bids. You should know that a chapter at one university has a totally different feel than a chapter of the same sorority at another … please don’t base your choice on what you may have heard elsewhere…
