Thanks for that summary. Good to know how this will probably shake out (though I wonder what the “are you sure you want to see” part was for. Cruel anticipation?)

o what shall I do? late December??? I can NEVER wait that long!!! I haven’t sent any materials to any other schools yet, just to wait for UChicago results that’s too cruel!! those A.O.!! Have they ever waited for results when they were students???

@heinochus: Christmas??? I hope this never turns out to be true. why UChicago wants to be late? the majority of top schools release results around 15th. Does latenss means that they going to admit more students? (indeed student size has expanded so much. I remember, at first student/faculty ratio is about 4:1; then 5:1, now if i am right it’s about 6:1)

Thank you for your details,MilesAndEvans13!hahaha…the pessimistic voice in my head tells me to wait for my deferral…lol

@dawncoming: No,I don’t think so…Well, apparently they’ve got so many more copies of app to go through which will substantiately increase the amount of time to put in,I suppose…I wouldn’t worry about the lessened faculty:student ration,as in I just cannot imagine the total number of admitted students sees a rocketing.Higher yielding might be resulted(or definitely?)~Or no?

Oh well~Yup,agree with some of y’all…just chill and work on other stuff><I doubt if I can finish all my app before 25th though…And I don’t have Christmas here, not in my community…Well,at least I’ve got new year to celebrate!lol

What are ya’ll folks doing besides waiting for the decisions?(I know I seem to have asked similar Qs in that AE ppl thread, almost a month ago though!) I find myself ,aside from normal school and stuff, reading random books and blogs…ah,life

Ooops…I made up a word…it should be “substantially”…agrr~

To add to what GatitaZ sad, there is ABSOLUTELY no chance of a increase in the student body significant enough to negatibely impact the faculty:student ratio. The admissions office has a rough idea of what percentage of accepted students will yield, and while a higher-than-expected yield could result in some slight overcrowding, that’s measured in percentage points, far from say, a 50% increase in size of the freshman class.

I’m freaking out…and I really just want to know so that I don’t have to do the Northwestern app…if I get into Chicago then I won’t even bother.

This one kid at my school has an hour countdown on his status right now for his UPenn decision release… It’s definitely heightening MY heart rate… sigh

I have butt loads of homework to do right now, so that’s what I’m busying myself with. scurries off to go complete math homework

although we don’t yet know on what day decisions will be released, is it definite what time of day they will become available? as in 5 pm ET or noon ET or whatever.

Probably around 5. At least, historically, this has been true.

@ Gatita Z
glad to find out you are also an applicant from Shanghai. How’s your application going these days? Basically I’m staying at home since I caught a big cold and turned into a horrifying monster so my teacher demanded me to quit school temporarily. lol

As for my life, I’m basically writing my essays, reading books, defending myself in the battle against bacteria. Sorry for being dramatic, but the fact I am being dramatic was probably caused by a disconnection from school life. Ahh, I miss my math problems and my friends.

Good luck with you all!
Phoebe

Oh, I totally forgot about the release date.
Now, I am a bit nervous

@Phoebe:

Glad to see you,a Shanghainese applicant too!I’m so sorry to know about your having to stay at home because of a cold!Hmmm, missing your math and friends, huh?I hope you get better!!!I sincerely wish you triumph in the battle against the bacteria! Drink hot water and rest well!Don’t maim your health, folk!

I’m refusing to get vaccinated for that FLU because it’s just such an immature experiment as far as I am concerned…Ah,Thanks for asking! My applications…bleh,I’m technically demotivated somehow and only have finished three schools’ stuff,Chicago included…It’s still a long way to go,considering I’ve got plenty to submit…I’m trying to get them done~!Regular school, and less talk with my school friends resulted from my absence last year from Shanghai,or not as in I’m just being sensitive.Sigh,c’est la vie><It should eventually be alright,I’ve got faith with da capical F.

Haha~Why sorry for being dramatic? It’s quite alright!;)Hm,well…Essays are getting me!..

Btw,are you from SFLS? I’m not,but I’ve met one here from there.Just curious~lol

Good luck to all!

Gatita

neogop: hahah~I see!Well, good luck w/ your wev homework that seems a huge load!scurries off to write my essay…

How likely is it that they’ll release decisions after the 15?

Do you guys have plans for what you’re going to do if you are defered/accepted/rejected?

defer - sit in shock. cry. work on other applications (with a heavy heart)

accept - call my friend who is taking care of my U Chicago sweatshirt for me (I got it as a gift, and it seemed like bad luck to wear it before I got in.)

reject - burn the sweatshirt

Honestly, who knows. All we know is that they got 54% extra applications, but extra apps doesn’t necessarily equal more time needed to evaluate them (unless like 70% of the application pool is extremely qualified)

That’s true…but don’t they still have to look through that many?..that’s time…

^If many are unqualified, then they just trash them.

By the way, I just figured out what I’m doing once decisions come out. Once I see that decisions are up, I’m gonna open up ITunes and play the Final Countdown until there’s one minute left in the song, and then, I log into my UChicago account. Then, I see the damage, and I figure, if I get in, then it’s so much more epic, and if I get rejected, at least I got rejected listening to the Final Countdown lol.

^That’s not true. Chicago is committed to reading each completed application cover to cover by at least two separate readers.
