Chicago Economics

Hey All,

I was just wondering if anyone who was already admitted was planning on pursuing a major in economics at Chicago, and if so, are you excited? concerned about the difficulty? worried about its conservative tendencies?

I'm just hoping to get a conversation going on Chicago's notorious, world famous econ program, which is, by far, the best in the world!!

I'm majoring in math with a specialization in economics and I can't wait!

That's awesome... Chicago's theoretical math faculty is insane

I am not positive that I am going to Chicago yet, but I was admitted EA and plan to either major in Economics or double in Economics and Public Policy.

I was admitted and I'm thinking poli-sci and economics.....or classics.
Economics is ONE of the reasons I love chicago- econ makes me swoon.
conflicted

if admitted- thats what I plan on majoring in.

i applied to chicago with its econ department, public policy, international studies, and law letters and society in mind

Hah... I'd love to double major Econ/PS ... but I'm a TRANSFER... =(

Yeah, I'd love to do the Econ/Poli Sci double major, but I have two concerns:

1) How hard will that be?
2) How much will that take away from me taking full advantage of their insane econ department?

I've heard that econ/poli sci is one of the more common double majors and therefore not too hard to manage (by Chicago standards).

Since ECON is the univresity's fine point, does that make the adcoms think twice about who they admit with econ as the applicants intended major?

Well, that might be the case if you clearly indicated in your app your intentions to major in econ, but since that it is not required in any part of the uncommon application, I don't know why that would be an issue

Yeah, I found it interesting that not once did you have to write down intended major. I did, however, write an essay that had econ and public policy at the forefront. Did you guys do similarly?

Yeah, I talked about wanting to do stuff related to government in one of my short answers

same here- my "favorite things" essay was all about government.

I really don't think they judge you based on your choice of majors- just the passion you show for that subject.
