Chicago mystery or bull?

Er222's comments on his daughter's U of C and "Second City" experiences parallel my own from being a student there many moons ago with the difference being that Chi-Town has even that much more to offer today's students. The wrap-up comment is also right-on.

"My daughter, who is a sophomore there, seems to be going out not only many week ends (parties, movies, comedy clubs, meeting friends from Northwestern downtown, Cubs games, White Sox games, etc.) virtually every weekend. The worse thing that this OP can do is make a decision without actually visiting the campuses, or at least talking to as many students at each campus as possible. You have two great -- but very different choices. Good luck."

The schools are about equal in prestige and academic quality. The environments and locations are very different, though. If you want a major urban university, go to Chicago. If you want a college in a countryish area, near a number of other colleges and one large state university, go to Amherst. It's a waste of time debating which is better.
