I don’t know where Sensation got that 8% number. Last year it was 5.4% (56/1,033), and it was almost entirely attributable to students who de-committed to Chicago after they were taken off someone else’s waitlist. (I.e., the total enrollment for the class changed by 5 people from the news story at the beginning of May to the final numbers, although the accepted students number went up by 56.) For the few years before last, I believe the waitlist numbers were even lower, since class sizes were higher than target for several years running and it stressed the first-year housing stock (numerous yucky forced triples that should have been doubles).

This also suggests that they may not go to the waitlist all that fast, especially if they have already done one pass through it. It may have to wait for other waitlists to move.

Hey guys I’m a waitlist admit I just posted some stuff about getting my admissions materials on the thread “Notifing Waitlist students earlier than May 1st”.
It will prolly apply to normal wait-listed people as well, so maybe it will help one of you.

The office is probably figuring out the yield, and soon they will know how much students they will pull out of the waitlist. Nobody knows when they will “begin the process,” but the admission office tries really hard to contact waitlisted students ASAP. So good luck, and post on CC if you get a call!

@rmst: wow congratulations! youre so lucky! i just had a question for you. you said you sent two emails to your counselor? how did you start out your second letter? i don’t want to be bothersome or anything but i wanted to send a second email just as a follow up. and how long did you wait before you sent your second email? thanks in advance!

Lol I came across this post in the parents forum:

I personally think that by the time adcoms get to WL, they are like, “I just want this to be over with so I could go on my summer vacation.” Oh a WL person is on the phone, “You are full pay? You really want a spot? You could commit now? We’ll get back to you.” Two minutes later call the WL person back, “After careful consideration, we would really like to offer you the spot. We think you would be the perfect fit for this school. You will accept? Great! We will send the package right away.” One down, 50 more to go, just shoot me, someone put me out of this misery!!!

I guess theres some truth in it, but I hope this doesnt describe Chicagos adcoms!! xD

It is pretty entertaining, happybuddha But unfortunately, that doesn’t happen in any university. Admission officers get paid to go through careful review to create an optimal student body each year.

Waitlist is not a race. Just because you send more stuff or call admissions office every 2 second will NOT put you in favourable position. The admissions office has specific plan on what kind of students they want to pull out, and this depends on one’s nationality, race, gender, economic status etc etc.

I think you’ve done enough, so just chill out.

Yes I forgot, congrats, rmstmppr (I assume it’s room stomper? That’s how I say it in my head anyways)! And the best of luck to all the rest of you.

They also said if u get accepted u get a phone call, if not you get an email, and your status will be reflected on your chicago account (lol no more checking my email every day). I heard it takes 10 days to process all deposits, so maybe the first wave of waitlist decisions will come out next week?
