Chicago's Optional Essay

What is the optional essay about favorites or whatever?

Has the wording for Fall 2013 been released?

Anyone o.o

Prompt: Would you please tell us about a few of your favorite books, poems, authors, films, plays, pieces of music, musicians, performers, paintings, artists, magazines, or newspapers? Feel free to touch on one, some, or all of the categories listed, or add a category of your own.

i don’t think the wording is going to change. This is what they’ve been using for years

Very well. Thanks man :D

No prob! I see you’re already starting your essays too, are you applying EA?

Yes, I am going to apply EA. I think anyway. Not really sure about the direction I want to take with my early admissions.

I’ve done the essay with the 6 options. That’s the only one I’ve done so far though out of all the supplements I have to do, not just with Chicago.

What about you?

hahaha I’ve been working on essay 6 too, and also 4, I’m trying to see which one comes out better.

I want to apply EA but I’m not sure yet either.

The new essays are available

By the way I don’t think that was a prompt

What are you saying Murphy? o.o

Turtle, as I recall none of the questions were about favorite book, poem, painting. I have to double check but you can get questions for this year. They are available

The six main essay prompts have been made available. The Favorite Things prompt is a totally separate optional essay (but you should do it  ). Ivyvision was likely quoting it from last year’s supplement. Similarly, the “Why Chicago?” essay is totally separate from the six and is required. The actual supplement won’t be available until August. So, in summary, you must do two essays plus an optional third:

Pick one of six prompts for your “Main” essay. They have been made available for 2012-13 by UChicago and can be found elsewhere online (sorry, can’t link).

Required “Why Chicago?” essay. Exact wording of the prompt will be on the supplement but is unlikely to be changed from prior years. Murphy would not have seen this among one of the six “Main” prompts, as he mentioned above.

Optional “Favorite Things” essay. Exact wording of the prompt will be on the supplement but is unlikely to be changed from prior years.

Hope that helps.

Yup, thanks guys.
