I'm really into Chinese and I'd like to continue learning it at Tulane. I don't want to major in it (wouldn't matter if I did, Tulane doesn't have a major) but I'm definitely thinking about studdying abroad in China and would like to become at least semi-conversational.

I'm a political science person so the strength of a Tulane's Chinese department was far from a "make or break" when I decided on Tulane. But I would like to hear from anyone who knows a bit about Chinese at Tulane.

Hello tulsadem!

A LOT of my friends took Intro to Chinese and said it was a wonderful class. It was challenging to them (who were novice) but I like Chinese too and having a teensy background helped me. I didn't think it was a hard class lol.

It shoudl help a little on my trip to see my friend in taiwan next week lolllllll.
We shall see.

Their asian studies program is VERY strong though! I highly recommend it.

I've taken three semesters of Chinese at Tulane and my father is the current acting head of the Asian Studies department. I would say that the Chinese program isn't the best (classes seem to go more slowly than at other schools), but it's adequate for those with an interest in learning the language. It's also very new and thus constantly evolving. We've just added a fifth semester as of last year and I believe a new summer study abroad program as well. Be advised that as you get more advanced, though, there tend to be less Americans and more native speakers looking for an easy A. (Although they are working on solving that.)
