Chinese...German...Spanish?

learn chinese. you might end up wanting to live there. imagine living there and not knowing the language!

charizard, i expected something like that from u concerning chinese. always so knowledgeable in the far east... but charizard, i gotta show my greatness to humble u...china IS rising and it IS a good reason to learn it. japan, in the other hand, is declining; it's no longer the threatening economic giant it used to be.

as for german, unless u are interested in engineering, modern architecture, eastern europe, then it's not worth it.

foxdie, yes. it is an impressive combination. the top three languages of the world. u could communicate with like billions of people.

but what about this combination: tagalog+ dutch+ zulu people will be awed by the exotic combination of the obscure languages!!

Spanish is a good language to be fluent in...and it looks great for job applications.

i don't know...spanish is just way too hard to be fluent in because of conjugations. i suppose that spanish can be useful for medical students... but spanish is really confined to the new world. in europe, german is more dominant. in east asia, china is still dominant as seen in the continual use of kanji in japan and hanja in korea.

so it depends on where u want to live..

Although Mandarin is the most common language, widespread dialects even in China itself make it difficult to learn when studying abroad.

English is a very idiomatic language, which makes it so difficult to grasp for foreigners. Should they all stop learning English then?

Yes, be rational. Lets see....theres Latin America, Tibet, and Frankfurt. Which one sounds the most appealing to you?

---Oh and in response to the nbachris2888, I'm never said you should not learn Chinese. I've just been in so many discussions about the difficulty of Chinese that I automatically, (but not accidently-the Prince of Art is divinely blessed and makes no mistakes) moved from talking about China's economy to the problems encountered by someone studying Chinese.

To defend what I said, Chinese has some pretty bizzare idioms, as anyone who's taken the language know. (Get Out!= Roll away!) Even though english, like any language has some, most Chinese words are made of weird compounds (Ants on the Tree, is a type of noodle; pirates are literally Sea-theifs 海盗 hai3 dao4) You just have to be aware and prepared for these modes of thought/word creation when you take the language.

Studieren Sie deutsch! Ja, das ist gut! Sie ist eine gute Sprache! Ich liebe deutsch! Sie soll auch deutsch lieben.

(Take German)

I second Foxdie's recommendation ... unless you plan on living in central/eastern Europe later on in life, I think you should take some more Spanish until you feel comfortable with it, and definitely go further with your chinese!

wow. german looks so ugly...consonants sandwiched...weird combination of letters...excessive use of "k" and "w"....take spanish instead, dude. any romance language can beat a germanic language any day. germanic languages have no beauty, so sense of aesthetic greatness.

charizard, how dare u presume to know more than his greatness, the majestic LORD OF GREATNESS??? do u dare to challenge him to a duel?!???!?!?!! do DARE? HUH????? but...i shalt forgive u this once. but in the future, be careful not to describe thyself as "divine." for LORD OF GREATNESS, the servant of Gabriel and vanquisher of Lucifer, wields the flaming sword of justice, the once true divine rabbit on this earth..

"ss" is preferred over the Beta symbol now.
Deutsch ist die beste Sprache!
Why don't you double major in languages? Although it's going to be tough..
I think you need Chinese more, because it's your native language. You've GOTTA know it!

No aesthetic greatness, no beauty in germanic languages? *** are you smoking bro!

if you want to practice you languages or have a partner here's a neat site www.sharedtalk.com
