Chinese Thread

i heard some internet cafes in india are actually "cafe" where the condition is really nice and they have a coffee shop in the same complex although u cant drink next to the computer for obvious reasons. i dont know... people dont have pcs here go to computer labs. but computers are definitely getting cheaper so that almost everyone can afford it. my first crappy computer in u.s. was $2000 back in 94 - 95, but now u can buy a better one for $200.

only $200? serious?? oh gosh that is cheap. but i have a laptop already so don't know if i'll buy one over there. at least not immediately or anything.
today's 高考。i'm crossing my fingers for my friends!!!

shoot haha i didnt know i had to take a placement exam for math before june 10th.. . my plane leaves at 10:00am tomorrow... wow... doing math right before i go to china... this is so fun

which city are you going to? i remember it's shanghai or something right?

Quote : Japan is politically an American puppet. It does what America tells it to do; and it acts what America policy says. This is not Japan bashing, but sometimes Japan doesn't seem to want to be Asian and doesn't respect its Asian neighbors.

Totally agree!

高考 people - add oil and wish you guys get good results!

yes. i was just reading some news articles on parents/students who went crazy/commited suicides because of stress of the 高考. this year the predicted acceptance rate is around 1/2~1/3 (as to 1/29 in 1977 the first year...when my parents had to take it).
As much as we have complained about the sats/college admissions, our lives are so, so much eaiser...

Hey, i just discovered this thread!!!! :((

I'm Chinese, a REAL Chinese, lived in CHina for 15 years, came to U.S. 2 years ago, greencard holder BTW :) i can speak, write Chinese perfectly.... heheheheeeee

and i have a life!

well, I'm going to University of Virginia this fall. UVA is sooo unknown in China :( anyway, i have friends who go to "Shi Yan Zhong Xue" and "Beijing Xi Zhong" who are coming to US too)

lucky! i wish i can still write chinese perfectly. I'm reading some chinese novels this summer and hopefully some of the lost skills can come back to me...;)

well, we should make a list of what colleges we Chinese students are going to this Fall. (or have you guys already done this?)

Hey Untiled! I lived in Beijing for 15 years, too! But i'm not PR...anyway I know about the schools you mentioned, and a friend of mine is in #4 high school right now...he's crazy, got around 670-680 in the practice Gaokao. Are you going back to Beijing this summer? I still have to wait for more than 1 month and all of my friends there are free now!! Can't wait to go back and have fun!

hmmm...a lot of beijing people here. only met one guy from chongqing, which is where i come from. in fact i'm in china right now, bored and online all the time. hee hee

i'm not going back to China this summer... i wish all my friends get in schools like QingHua or Beijing university

I was planning to go back to China. But after I didn't get into a decent college, I have no face to go back.

don't worry. my college is not that good either. it doesn't really matter that much. go for a better graduate school!

stats (don't cringe TOO much):
Shanghai: came here @ 6
SAT: 600V, 670M
SAT II: 630W, 610IC, 540Chem
GPA: 4.3/5.3
ECs: 12ish clubs, lots of volunteering
Accepted: Carnegie Mellon U- Mellon College of Science

and no, this isn't a joke. :)

-Angel

I both get accepted by Tsinghua U and Cornell Computer Science
Which one is a better go?

untilted...your english is pretty darn good considerng your moved here like 2 years ago..

are you SURE that you have a life?

lol just kidding

frederick: Go to cornell what are u thinkin ah?? If u realli like Tsinghua, go back to Tsinghua as professor after u get ur degrees in Cornell.

LOL

is cornell especially strong in computer science? i know it's strong in engineering and architecture. But anyway, both is good. If you are interested in coming to the u.s. and fin aid isn't a problem, then go with cornell. But tsinghua's great too. Sorry, i'm not helping much...
