Chm1025

has anyone taken this class? If so, would you happen to have any past tests that I could get?

I feel like I am doing really bad in the class and would like something extra to help me prepare for the final exam.

Thank you in advance =)

My D is in that class and is dropping it this week. I can’t believe how hard they make an Intro to Chemistry class.

A lot of the introductory classes at UF are harder than you might expect because they serve as weed out classes for the major(s) that they are prerequisites for.

how hard is this class? i’m taking it in the fall.

Well it’s been enough to change her Pre-Pharmacy major in the first semester Summer B. They have a TA and the first test the average was a C. He told them the 2nd test had to be hard at heXX because he had to make the average a 60.

A 2 credit online course is really that hard?

gpowsang

Is your D taking the class online?

FYI-1025 isnt hard. If people have problems with 1025, then you might have issues with 2045. At least you find out now rather than later. I was a peer mentor of 1025 for a couple of semesters, what are you have difficultly with? Is it the questions, memorization, stoichiometry involved?

My D is in the live section of the class. The teacher was supposed to be Mitchell but they have a TA. Perhaps Mitchell would have taught the concepts better.

To Fall 2009 students - I would suggest not even taking this course, and going straight into CHM2045 if you can. I got an A in 2045/2045L (easy lab) last fall, and my previous chemistry experience was limited to “regular” chemistry (not honors/AP) in high school, most of which I had forgotten.

A dorm-mate of mine last fall also claimed that he had covered everything in CHM1025 in middle school science class; however, he may have been exaggerating. It also seems like current teacher is rather difficult compared to that from last fall.

i qualify to take chm2045, but i haven’t taken chemistry since 9th grade. i didn’t want to take chm2045 for that reason because i thought that i would be rusty. what does chm2045 consist of and how were the labs?

Medwell: Who was your CHM 2045 professor?

I am taking this class live with Jared Lynch, the TA. He seems to have no experience teaching… but whatever.

Overall the class is not EXTREMELY difficult. There is TONS of homework though. We have to do a ridiculous amount of homework online, daily worksheets (that also take forever) and daily clicker points. I don’t think the concepts are super hard to understand, but they make the tests super hard. The first test was not so bad if you studied but the second test was ridiculous. I studied a lot and was frustrated that I couldn’t really understand the problems on the actual test.

I actually though about dropping the class too since I thought I failed Exam 2 but I’m actually fairly happy with my grade considering the average was a D. THe class is also curved so if you get an 85% then it’s an A.

If you are good at solving problems after you understand a concept I would recommend going straight into 2045… but if you need extra practice with things like this then definitely do 1025. Even though it’s been a bad experience overall, I think I can pull an A in the class and feel VERY prepared going into 2045 in the fall =]

thanks for the advice!

devtape - I had Gower.

Medwell, who was your lab teacher?
and also, how does the lecture class and the lab class work together?

I singed up for 1025 (fall/online) because:

I wanted to not have an overloading semester (being my first semester and all)

and

I BARELY qualified for 2045 after taking the chem placement test (i mean i got the least possible score to qualify). My preview advisor told me that people that scored what I scored on the placement test (a 12 (6chem/6math)) ended up getting about a C in 2045.

gpowsang

Also remember that the class is over 6 weeks compared to the normal semester (18wks?), so that can make it more difficult for some. If things haven’t changed, the 1st exam in 2045 covers everything you learn in 1025 (Chapters 1-6).

I’m taking CHM1025 online in the fall and I was considering trying to change it to a live section, if possible. Are there any major advantages to taking it live or online?
