Just wondering if anyone knows how many students are in their freshmen year there. I looked everywhere but the Choate website only gave the number of students for the whole school.

i just realized that bballprep's gone =/
(btw suburban, if you're not an old member w/ a new name like me and a few others, bballprep was accepted to choate and she loves it there i bet, cuz she made this "choate countdown thread" that survived the whole summer XD)

yeup any info on this would be helpful :)

Suburban, presently, there are around 160 "3rd formers" (freshman) in the 2012 class. From what I understand, Choate adds another 40 incoming 10th graders, so that each graduating class is about 200 students, with total student body of around 800. All of the 9th grade boys are housed in the same dorm (Memorial Hall), and the 9th grade girls are in a couple of dorms. Hope this helps and feel free to pm me with any questions (from a parent's perspective).

Skibum - are you sure about your numbers, they sound a little high. My kid is a 4th Former, but started last year. I would have guessed his third form class was about 120-130, with about 70-80 new kids coming in this year. But this is a guesstimate on my part, since I haven't seen the actual numbers.

lol does anyone currently there know? the adcom said the freshmen class would likely double next year, i forgot to ask how large it is now

and can anyone explain their labeling of classes

fourth former = sophomore?
third former = freshman?

its in british format. third former being freshman while sixth former because senior. i didn't understand that either while looking at european boarding schools until i was like WOAH! i get it

prpdd -- I'm not certain about the numbers, and I asked my S, and he didn't know either! So I just went through the facebook and counted 148 for 2012 class, and I might have missed a few (I know, I must have too much time on my hands). But the number of new students being added to the class in 2009 would be a good question to raise at interviews.
