How in depth do we need to read our books? What type of evaluation?

I will be a new student at choate this fall and I was also wondering the same. I basically just read through my three books…

Out of curiosity, what were the three books you had to read? Thanks!

Well there was 1 required book by the English department, then 2 books of your choice off of the list. I read the Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri and the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

Oh, all right, I’ll answer this. I was hoping a student would chime in though. Read your books for enjoyment first, and then with an eye for discussion. Summer reading is just that. When you convene at school, you should be prepared to share your thoughts about the books you read and contribute to the general discussion. Don’t worry about being tested. If you are even asked, the types of questions would be very general and able to be answered based on enjoyment-level reading. You are NOT being set up for your first test. Summer reading just provides an initial basis for class discussion.

No worries if you’ve done the reading.
