is it just me, or does choate have all the weird questions for essays? imean last yr they had this question about broccoli lunches, and now this yr theres one about creating a handy tool or something.
im actually feeling kinda thrown off by these questions right now. any opinions out there?

I know, I was thinking that too.

I've heard that the Head of Admissions is very interested in multiple intelligences. This question is perhaps some measure of creativity.

lol hence that questionaire thing for the application?

i like how choate seems like a very open minded school, open to new ideas and not too snobby. but this is only what ive deduced from the viewbooks and local representatives. i have yet to visit the campus.

Oh, the questionnaire thing. That threw me off a bit.
And did you see the sample question? It would be so easy for anybody to trick the admissions department by telling them what they want to hear; at lesat, that was what I inferred. The sample question was something like "If you try hard in any subject, you will always get good results", and there was a scale from 1-7. Any person could figure out what they want to hear and do that. Not that we would, but still.

I love Choate.

olivia writes "Any person could figure out what they want to hear and do that. Not that we would, but still."

Similar to the ssat essay portion, my guess is Choate isn't looking for a particular right or wrong answer but looking for how well you support your argument and at your writing style.

I was talking about the self-assessment, actually. I heard it's just clicking boxes, but I haven't taken it yet because I am not finished with my application.

oops- Sorry! My child's not applying to Choate so didn't understand the context. Sounds so "touchy-feely"!

That's fine. :)
