If the separate bed and desk means no bunkbed, then I choose that.

I’m in a triple at Unit 3 Ida Sproul. Whoever gets the bottom bunk is a lucky duck. I hope that’s me.
QUACK.

Haha.

Haha.

After my first year at the dorms, I’ve heard from many triples that they wish they got the bottom bunk first.

I’m in a triple too. Unfortunately one of the spaces in our triple is either empty or the guy is socially-inept.

So me and my roommate (the one that gave contact info) have fairly decided that since we both want the bottom bunk that we’ll flip a coin or some game of chance to choose. If Mr. Other Guy chooses a first come first sever basis, we’ll first size him up, and if he’s not some 7 ft tall 250lbs guy, we’ll manhandle him into playing fairly.

My rant’s moral? Take initiative and talk to your future roommates about it. Last thing you want is a confrontation or a bad impression.

Alright, having a guest over in a triple won’t work. Also, where the hell would you go to sleep on such occasions?

Also, I’m pretty confident I’ll have the first pick because I get to move in early. I hear that the top bunk by itself is the best.

You can have a guest over in a triple. They just sleep on the ground. Or you can just tell them to sleep in the lounge. Instead of vying for beds by who gets there earliest, why not just talk to your soon to be roommates? Start things off in a friendly manner…

One sentence: FIGURE IT OUT.

2 people on the top bunk is no problem at all. It happens very regularly actually lol.

I agree with Batman. You should probably discuss this with your roomies before just taking whatever you want. You’re gonna be living with these people. Having a guest in a triple is not that big a deal. If you read my earlier post, I just slept on the ground with some blankets and was fine. Also, yeah, two people can fit on a twin if both parties are willing to spoon/be spooned.

Never worked for me, two people in one. My feet just clear the edge of the bed and i like to roll around.
my roommate had this girl over and they slept in the same bed, he kicked her at night and she woke up and was like “ow what the ****”

One bit of advice – don’t have sexiles and don’t tolerate them.

If you’re doing it, common courtesy means getting a hotel room. Since it’s also your room, if your roommate is doing it, they should need to deal with being around and pretending nothing is happening.

As for the original thing with the beds - work it out with your roommates. It can be before you arrive or on the day you arrive, but work it out.

I was in a triple my first semester at Cal. Unfortunately, my rooommates didn’t work it out and did the first-come-first-pick route. It irked me. Two of us were willing to talk it over, but the the third roommate wasn’t.
In the end, though, it doesn’t really matter which bunk and desk you receive, imo. You’ll get used to whatever you end up with. A benefit of a top bunk is that when you’re pulling an all-nighter, you won’t be tempted to “just lie down for second,” where a second might turn into hours…The climb prevented me from any of that. “I’m too lazy to go rest.”
I kinda want a top bunk again, for this reason…

And the to second flutterfly_28, yes, two people on the top bunk can happen.

Seems as if the top bunk of the bed where there is a desk in place of the bottom bunk is the best choice. You will not only be less tempted to lie down and thus likely fall asleep during all night cramming sessions but you can also do the dirty without having to worry about shaking the bed to the point where the person on the bottom bunk can’t sleep.
