choice of major-competitiveness

I've heard that you compete against others who have the same choice of major as you, (ie. biology major=harder chance of acceptance) but what if you put undecided within your choice of college. Does the adcom see this as bad since you don't know what you want to do, or is this good since you aren't competing against others (at least in terms of majors)?

I emailed Cornell a while back in which I asked them if i could put down my first and second choice major on the app, b/c I wasn't really sure, and the person that responded said that would be fine, b/c most students change their major anyways, and I think he also said, but I'm not real sure, that it doesn't really matter what major you put down anyways. The only school i know of where you need to put down a major is Carnegie Mellon for CIT, if you are applying ECE there, you have to put it down, but for Cornell I don't think it should make a difference, however it might make it harder for them to relate to your how will you utilize Cornell's stuff for your major essay, but don't worry about it, it's over now, we just have to wait and wait, and wait, for what seems like forever.
