Hello!

I normally don't go on these sorts of sites, but on the behest of a friend, I'm going to give it a try! This all seems really, really awesome and useful (yes, very articulate, I am).

So, I'm an international student, currently living in Beijing, China, who plans to attend university in the US as a psychology major (with a minor in music history if I can). These are the universities that I've been accepted to and that I'm considering:

University of Rochester (with 10,000USD/year scholarship)
Pitzer College
Boston University

I would like a place with, at least, some culture and the general 'friendly people and nice staff' jazz.

I really like all of these colleges and I don't want to rely too much on things like rankings or ratings on sites!

Could some awesome students of these three universities give me some tips? <3

THANK YOU!

Hi…
We just visited Pitzer last week w/our youngest child. She is a rising senior and will be applying to colleges in the fall. Of the 3 colleges you listed, I have heard of all 3—but have not visited Univ of Rochester. However, there is a very distinct difference between Pitzer and Boston U. One is part of a 5 college consortium and located in the suburban town of Claremont in California—mild to warm weather throughout the yr. To experience “culture,” you will definitely need to take advantage of the MetroRail or bus to get to Los Angeles or Orange County. In comparison, Boston Univ is VERY large and situated smack in the middle of a city—which will definitely give you some snow and wet weather. You will find diversity and friendly students/staff in both schools. Boston Univ is just down the street from Northeastern Univ (also with a large student population)…so, you be surrounded by many students… Pitzer and Boston Univ are contrasting schools! Good luck!

so i applied to both pitzer and bu.
its really about the atmosphere u want. pitzer may have the 5cs but its not the same undergrad experience as a singular big college. that superficial difference is pretty large. also location is another factor. do u want a big city? i visited pitzer and it was pretty isolated, everything was at least 15 mins away. i grew up in a big city. personally pitzer is still my number 1 [waitlist] and im not going to BU cuz its too big.

wen i applied to places i wasnt sure which experience i wanted but BU is definitely not right for me. check out college p r o w l e r. theyre useful in finding out more about the on campus feel
